Silk SMILE LASIK is the next-generation vision correction surgical method that is different from LASIK and LASEK. Silk SMILE LASIK makes up for the shortcomings of traditional corneal refractive laser surgeries. It utilizes the ELITA Femtosecond Laser System, developed and launched by the global company Johnson & Johnson. The ELITA Femtosecond Laser System features high irradiation speed and a small-diameter laser, enabling rapid visual recovery after surgery. By projecting low energy (40 nJ) laser, the procedure ensures precise vision correction while reducing eye stress. Compared to conventional lenticule surgeries, Silk SMILE LASIK has a unique lenticule form.
The cornea is cut in a biconvex form, with curves on both the top and bottom. This reduces damage to the surrounding nerves, and the uppermost part of the cornea is firm. The biconvex form enabled by Silk SMLE LASIK is good for preserving more of this firm cornea, as well as the corneal nerves. The procedure reduces higher-order aberration, making patients feel more comfortable with better vision.
