    Bukchon Hanok Village Restricts Tourist Entry After 17:00

    Starting November 1, 2024, tourists are advised not to visit Bukchon Hanok Village in late hours to prevent disturbance to residents, following the new regulation. Designated as the “Red Zone,” residence area behind the Jeongdok Library between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace experiences the highest influx of visitors. All tourists, except those with accommodation or shoppers in the area, are restricted from entering from 17:00 to 10:00 next day. After a grace period until February 2025, a fine of a hundred thousand won will be imposed on those violating the regulation, starting in March 2025. The regulation is introduced to prevent the inconvenience to residents caused by over-tourism such as trespassing, violation of privacy, littering, etc. (* Over-tourism refers to a phenomenon of tourist overcrowding that leads to a negative impact on the local environment and residents’ lives.) Tourists are requested to cooperate and adhere to the regulation to ensure an enjoyable trip for everyone.

    Around Cheongwa Offers Range of Programs

    Around Cheongwa Offers Range of Programs - Free tours, participation-style exhibitions, one-day classes, stamp tours, and more! The Korea Tourism Organization and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are operating a special program, Around Cheongwa, from October 19 to December 30, 2024. The program aims to showcase the historical and contemporary attractions around the Cheongwadae Sarangchae area. 1. Around Cheongwa Tour Explore the hidden charms of the Seochon and Bukchon areas with an expert tour guide, taking place every weekend from October 19 to November 3, 2024. Two English tours are available daily on November 2 and November 3 for Seochon and Bukchon respectively. 2. Virtual Traveler Exhibition “Anyone’s Carrier” This exhibition, taking place November 13 – December 30, 2024 at Cheongwadae Sarangchae, will showcase the suitcases of six virtual travelers. Visitors to the exhibition can decorate the travel items on display and take pictures as if the items were their own. A social media sharing event is also planned, with all participants receiving a souvenir. 3. One-day Class A range of one-day classes, from making perfume to silk wrapping art and more will be available in the Travel Lounge on the first floor of Cheongwadae Sarangchae. The classes are a paid program and will be held on Fridays from November 15 to December 20. The classes on offer are from studios and companies in the area around Cheong Wa Dae. 4. Stamp Tour From November 13 to December 30, 2024, all visitors to Cheongwadae Sarangchae can participate in a stamp tour. The stamp tour starts from Cheongwadae Sarangchae and visits various attractions in the area on two different walking courses. Completion souvenirs are available in a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. 5. Monthly Cheongwa Pass All Around Cheongwa tour participants and visitors to Cheongwadae Sarangchae can receive a Monthly Cheongwa Pass, offering discounts to local shops and brands. The theme of the discounts varies each month, focusing on Food & Beverage in October, Book & Story in November, and Art & Craft in December. Join in the Around Cheongwa programs to explore new attractions and charms of the Seochon and Bukchon neighborhoods, as well as enjoy various benefits and activities.     Seoul Outdoor Library Hosts Han Kang Special Curation

    A special curation commemorating writer Han Kang, the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, is being held at Seoul Outdoor Library. The Seoul Outdoor Library is a reading space operated at three places in Seoul with the theme of "Book Reading Seoul Plaza" at Seoul Plaza, "Reading by the Clear Stream" at Chongyecheon Stream, and “Gwanghwamun Book Square” at Gwanghwamun Square. Visitors are free to explore and borrow a diverse selection of books curated by the library. Ten works of Han Kang, a total of 216 books are exhibited in this curation. Readers are invited to submit their favorite lines from Han Kang’s work to stand a chance to win a surprising gift, adding a touch of fun to the experience. Visitors can also explore a diverse range of works by renowned Korean authors, including the Korean contemporary bestsellers “Diary of a Murderer: and Other Stories” by Kim Young-ha and “Modern Family” by Cheon Myeong-kwan, as well Korean classics such as “The Story of Hong Gildong” by Ho Kyun and “The Nine Cloud Dream” by Kim Man-jung. These works are available in French, English, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Russian, and other languages, making Korean literature accessible for international readers. Additionally, “Book Reading Hangang Park” is also taking place at Yeouido Hangang Park until October 26. Books are placed throughout the park along with various convenient amenities, such as beanbag chairs, to create a comfortable reading atmosphere. Check out the outdoor libraries across Seoul to soak up the autumn vibes and discover some outstanding Korean literature this fall.
