  • I finally made it to Korea and had my personal colors analyzed. We have similar services in Japan, but I decided to make the trip to Korea for one reason: Monsta X, the loves of my life! I’ve been watching Mon Must Go On and saw an episode where the members had their personal colors checked. I couldn’t believe how much the right colors could transform their appearance. I was determined to find the colors that suited me best so I could perfect my style. Here’s my review of the experience.

My destination? My Shopper in Apgujeong, of course! That’s where the Monsta X members had their analysis done. The shop has been visited by many other Korean celebrities as well, including members of Stray Kids, Xiumin from Exo, and Go Joon-hee. I was also drawn to their expert makeup service and tutorials, in addition to the personal color analysis.

The moment you step into My Shopper, you’ll hear all sorts of languages, a sign that they attract tourists from around the world. They offer interpretation services in multiple languages, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic. Unfortunately, there was no Japanese interpreter available, but the English interpretation was enough for me.

I chose the two-hour program, which included a one-on-one color analysis and a professional makeup session. After filling out a self-assessment questionnaire, I draped white fabrics over my head and shoulders. My analyst began matching different colors against my face to determine which ones complemented me best. As I looked in the mirrors, I was amazed at how different I looked with each color. It wasn’t just about the colors themselves, but also their brightness and saturation.

My analyst determined that I have what’s called a “cool muted winter” look, meaning darker, muted colors make my features stand out. I had an idea that I leaned towards cool tones, but the analysis really opened my eyes. I learned that clothing with bold, high-contrast patterns, like thick stripes and argyle checks, looks great on me.

Next, my analyst reviewed the makeup products I usually use. To my surprise, most of them were suited for people with warmer undertones. This revelation led me to make a beeline to Olive Young to stock up on products better suited for my skin tone before heading back to Japan. My Shopper also sends all the reference materials from the analysis via instant messenger or email, so I can easily consult them when shopping for cosmetics or clothes back home.

After the analysis, a professional makeup artist worked on my look. I fully trusted them and was absolutely delighted with the results. Some may say this obsession with color theory is just a trend, but my experience at My Shopper truly helped me learn more about myself. It’s so easy to book an appointment and visit, so I encourage everyone to give it a try!
