Bicycling Destinations Along K-Content, Even the Celebrities Are Doing It!
In Korea, “bicycle trips” is celebrating a renaissance, with city-dwelling Gen MZ riders cruising along the Hangang River, celebrities immersing themselves in cycling sports, and domestic and international travelers taking on the full journey around Jeju Island.
More and more people are exploring Korea on two wheels. This phenomenon, dubbed “K-riding,” has evolved past being a mode of transportation to becoming a lifestyle trend and a form of content unto itself. Here are four ways and destinations to enjoy K-riding in earnest.
Lately, Korean variety shows have been featuring celebrities on their bikes. They start along Seoul’s Hangang River and head out toward Gyeonggi-do Province. On I Live Alone, SHINee’s Minho was seen pedaling past Amsa Hill and into eastern Gyeonggi-do, while in Iron Girls, which follows female celebs, participants biked to Paldang and stopped by a famous restaurant serving chilled chogye-guksu (chicken noodle soup).
As these variety shows reveal, day-trip cycling routes from Seoul into Gyeonggi-do have become especially popular. One of the best-loved destinations is Paldangho Lake, reached by heading east from the Hangang River. The route to the lake is mostly flat, making it easy and enjoyable, with great spots to unwind and take in the scenery, such as the Paldang Observatory and nearby cafés.
Another route is along the Goyang City bike trail, especially near Haengjusanseong Fortress History Park. Riding along the Hangang River, cyclists will be welcomed by photogenic spots such as Pinwheel (Baramgaebi) Hill and a scenic riverside steel fence. These locations are easily reachable by heading northwest from Seoul.
And what if you don’t own a bike? No problem! Bicycle rental stations can be found on both courses, where visitors can rent a bike anytime for as long as they need with just a passport. Cycling in Korea is becoming a unique new way to explore Korea for many international travelers.

Bicycles often appear in Korean dramas. In fact, scenes featuring two lovebirds riding their bikes side by side and laughing together have become symbolic of a budding romance onscreen. Similar scenes can be found in many romantic dramas such as My Demon and Love Next Door.
The bike paths that appear in these scenes are actual routes that travelers love to explore. For example, in the drama Behind Your Touch, a seaside bike path sets the stage for a flashback scene involving the lead character’s parents enjoying a bicycle date in their youth. The path meanders along gorgeous unblocked ocean views along the coast of Ganghwado Island.
One of the most scenic stretches is the eastern coastal road of Ganghwado Island, running about 13 kilometers from Gapgot Dondae Fort to Chojijin Fortress. This beautiful route hugs the Yeomha River and is bursting with cherry blossoms and azaleas. Even with relaxed stops along the way, the ride can easily be done in under two hours. As you follow the open coastal road, you’ll also come across many historic sites throughout Ganghwado. Pause for a moment, take in the sweeping views, and enjoy a ride that blends natural beauty with cultural heritage.

Many K-pop idols have taken to their bikes along the Hangang River while connecting with fans. BTS’s RM often streamed his rides live on V Live, even releasing a song inspired by cycling called “Bicycle.” SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi also shared his rides during live broadcasts, drawing more fans to experience the Hangang River themselves.
Cycling along the Hangang River has now become a familiar scene for K-pop fans worldwide. The paths idols frequent are trails that run parallel to the Hangang River, famous not only for their stunning views of the nightscape but also for being the longest cycling route in Seoul.
This past July, actor Park Bo-gum, who was appointed honorary ambassador for Korean tourism, recommended riding a Ddareungi bike, or Seoul’s public bike-sharing service, along the Hangang River as one of the best experiences for international visitors. With just a quick QR scan on the Ddareungi app, anyone can rent a bike almost anywhere in the city at an affordable price to explore both downtown Seoul and the riverside. Instead of just strolling by the river, why not hop on a Ddareungi bike and ride the same path your favorite idols once did?

Where was the setting for the bicycle dates shown in the dramas King the Land and Our Blues? The answer is Gapado Island, a small isle off Jeju Island. Riding past the refreshingly deep blue seas and the cool ocean breeze would turn a simple trip into an unforgettable experience for all the senses.
For many international fans, Jeju Island is known as the setting for many K-dramas, as attractions such as Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, Hyeopjae Beach, and the scenic coastal roads have appeared countless times across many Korean content.
Cycling leisurely around the island is also one of the most authentic ways to soak in the unique vibes of Jeju. The Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path stretches 234 kilometers, circling the entire island along the coast and offering endless views of the ocean and cool sea breezes no matter where you are. If you’d like to experience the island’s local spirit as seen in your favorite K-dramas, why not try biking along the coast of Jeju?
Among the cycling routes introduced today, which one would you like to visit the most? We invite you to take on a bicycle itinerary the next time you’re in Korea!
