autumn
After the heat of summer, the cool air of fall brings a burst of color to the trees throughout Korea. This year’s first foliage will begin at Seoraksan Mountain on October 1, with peak foliage expected throughout the country from late October through early November. Bukansan Mountain will reach its peak October 30, Jirisan Mountain on October 27, Naejangsan Mountain on November 6, and Hallasan Mountain in Jeju on October 29. First foliage is considered when 20% of the trees have changed, while peak foliage is counted as 80% turned.
Popular fall foliage attractions in Seoul include Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul Forest, Olympic Park, and Maeheon Citizen's Forest. The golden ginkgo leaves of Deoksugung Palace’s Stone Wall Path and Myeongnyundang Lecture Hall of Sungkyunkwan University are also outstanding. Famous fall foliage attractions outside of Seoul include Hwadam Botanic Garden, Nami Island, Yeoju Gangcheon Resort, and The Garden of Morning Calm. Mountains popular for beautiful fall foliage include Bobaljae Hill in Danyang, Oksunbong Peak in Jecheon, Ginkgo Forest in Hongcheon, Jangtaesan Mountain in Daejeon, Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, Baegyangsa Temple in Jangseong, and Bulguksa Temple in Gyeongju.
