This cold soup is often served in Yangyang, Gangwon State, where it is known as “Jjaebok Mulhoe.” “Jjaebok” refers to venus clams harvested in the East Sea, which also comes from its small size and supposed ugliness. Its flavor, however cannot be denied, with hardly any fishy smell, the meat is chewy and springy, and the taste is quite clean. Boiled venus clam meat is put on a bed of julienned and thinly sliced vegetables like lettuce, carrot, and cucumber, and a spicy cold soup is poured on top.
