A recent favorite is the nurungji ojingoesundae, chewy squid stuffed with savory fillings and wrapped in crispy scorched rice. Most items are easy to enjoy on the go, making it a convenient way to satisfy your hunger while exploring the market.
Abai Village (아바이 마을)
This village was formed by families displaced from the northeastern North Korea during the Korean War and still preserves the region’s distinctive food and culture. Visitors can try northern specialties such as Abai sundae, Hamheung naengmyeon (Hamheung-style cold buckwheat noodles), and gajamisikhae (fermented plaice), or ride the traditional hand-pulled cable ferry that connects the island and the mainland for a unique experience.
Sokcho Eye (속초아이대관람차)
Korea’s only beachside Ferris wheel offers sweeping views of Sokcho’s blue sea and Seoraksan Mountain. The 15-minute ride slowly rotates, revealing refreshing ocean and cityscapes by day and a romantic, illuminated skyline at night. Each cabin is climate-controlled, ensuring comfort year-round.
Daepo Port Original Fried Food Alley (대포항 원조튀김골목)
Near Daepo Port in Sokcho lies an alley lined with eateries specializing in fried seafood. Whole shrimp, crab, and squid are deep-fried to a crispy perfection, popular as snacks or bar food. You can also enjoy fried vegetables such as chili peppers, perilla leaves, and sweet potatoes, along with local specialties like ojingeosundae (stuffed squid) and saewoogangjeong (deep-fried and braised shrimp).
Bogwang Mini Golf Club
This open-air mini golf club has welcomed players since 1963. With bouncy rubber balls, it offers a playful twist on traditional golf, and equipment is available for rent on-site. The 17-hole course features unique rules for each round, with scores tallied to crown the winner. After the game, relax with a refreshing drink.
