Mokpo is a city that brims with remains from the turbulent times of Korea’s modern history. A city which once withstood the control of Japanese administration is now a tourist-friendly city that embraces the past with retro neighborhoods. For example, the building that was built as a Japanese embassy in 1900 is now Mokpo Modern History Museum Hall No. 1. Sihwa Village is another example, a neighborhood which was formed during the Japanese colonization period. Walk through the buildings that still bear the remains of the past for a closer look into the modern history of Korea and the future it holds.
