With a shoreline that reaches 73 kilometers, Gangneung is blessed with fantastic beaches. While beaches like Gyeongpohaebyeon Beach, Jeongdongjin Beach, and Gangmun Beach see a lot of family and friends on vacation, there are two beaches in particular that attract visitors who love to take photos. Hyanghohaebyeon Beach is a popular pilgrimage site among BTS fans, while Sageunjinhaebyeon Beach creates a lovely scenery with colorful tetrapod structures in the backdrop. After a tour around the beaches, head to Ojukheon House for a leisurely walk.

Hyanghohaebyeon Beach (향호해변)
The filming spot for BTS’ album cover of “You Never Walk Alone.” The wide open beach behind the bus stop is a sight to behold.
Jumunjin Port (주문진항)
A port popular for its fishery market. You can buy freshly caught seafood at affordable prices.
Sageunjinhaebyeon Beach (사근진해변(사근진해수욕장))
A photogenic beach thanks to the colorful tetrapod structures along the shore.
Ojukheon House (강릉 오죽헌)
The birth place of Shin Saimdang and her son Yulgok Yi-I, both prominent figures in the Korean history. A portrait of Shin Saimdang and Yulgok Yi-I is on the Korean 50,000 won bill and 5,000 won bill, respectively.
Chodang Sundubu
Chodang sundubu is a type of soft bean curd that originated from Chodang-dong in Gangneung. Chodang sundubu uses seawater from Gangneung during the coagulation process, resulting in a softer texture compared to that of bean curds from other regions. There are many soft bean curd restaurants in Chodang Sundubu Village, but if you want to taste something more unique, we recommend Gangneung Donghwa Garden’s jjamppong sundubu (spicy noodles with soft bean curd).
