Cheongju, a city with history, culture, and the comfortable embrace of nature

Even before its airing, “The Glory (2022)” made news as the joint work between Song Hye-kyo, the queen of K-dramas and one of the first generation Hallyu celebrities, and the star writer Kim Eun-sook. After its premiere on the streaming service Netflix, it became the most globally popular show on the platform. “Crash Course in Romance (2023),” a drama depicting a romance between Jeon Do-yeon, who plays the owner of a Korean deli, and Jung Kyung-ho, a star lecturer in a cram school, likewise premiered to great reception in Korea and abroad.

The two shows are not only connected in their successes but also in their setting in Cheongju. Cheongju is a city located only 2 hours from Seoul, making it a convenient day trip destination from Seoul. This itinerary takes you along the filming locations featured in “The Glory,” from Cheongju Jungang Park, home to beautiful ginkgo trees, to historical temples dating back to the Silla period, and Ullidan Street and other Cheongju hangouts that featured in “Crash Course in Romance.”
