Uijeongbu sausage jjigae + traditional experience + activities = A perfect day trip in Uijeongbu!
Uijeongbu, located at the center of northern Gyeonggi-do, is home to a unique dish created in conjunction with a nearby military base in the post-Korean War years: Budaejjigae (sausage jjigae). This is a jjigae made with a thick kimchi stock and processed meat products (sausage, bacon, minced meat), along with leftover ingredients. Sausage jjigae became the city’s most well-known dish as the product of its geographic situation and history, and today, it is an indispensable part of any gourmand trip in Uijeongbu. For a more in-depth view of Korean culture, head to Damdaheon, where you can try making traditional desserts. There, you can get to know rice cake, traditional Korean sweets (hangwa), and other delightful morsels and discover a new side to Korean cuisine.

*Lee Luda (WJSN)
WJSN is a 10-member girl group based on a dreamy fantasy concept where all members have different horoscopes. Luda is a vocalist who captivates her fans as the group’s “onminyeo” (warm beauty). Her short height and dainty features contrast magnificently with her honest and practical character. Luda’s connection with the city of Uijeongbu was through the YouTube travel show “IDOL TOUR.” She says that the trip was special to her, both because her bandmates joined her and because she fell in love with the city.
“I got to know Uijeongbu quite well while filming a travel show a few years ago. Everyone knows Uijeongbu’s sausage jjigae, but many people don’t know that the city also has great parks, cultural spaces, and other restaurants and markets. If you want to go beyond sausage jjigae mukbang, you can head to the experience center, where you can make traditional desserts like rice cakes and traditional Korean sweets. If you want something more active, Uijeongbu Curling Stadium is a great place to visit. This is the only curling stadium that is open to the general public in Korea, so it is super popular with the locals as well.”
Chic lighting and objects at NIGHT IN DAY
This cafe greets visitors from the very entrance with paintings and objects. The interior likewise features antique and retro-style items. There’s an electronic keyboard, plants, and sculptures, which all make for great backgrounds for your next Instagram upload. That is not to say that the cafe skimps on substance, as its croffle and beverage menu draws a considerable number of people. On weekend evenings, finding a place to sit is often difficult.
