A day trip to Andong, the most Korean of all Korean cities
Andong is a region where tradition and history live and breathe. The city is now in a tourist renaissance of sorts, thanks to both established sights like the Hahoe Village and the Andong Jjimdak Alley within the Andong Gu Market (Old Andong Market) and beautiful new additions like the Woryeonggyo Bridge and Nakgang Mulgil Park. When you arrive in Andong, head to Andong Jungang New Market (opening on days ending in 2 and 7) and Andong Gu Market. After a meal of Andong’s most famous specialty, braised chicken, head to Sinse-dong Mural Village, Woryeonggyo Bridge, and Nakgang Mulgil Park for a leisurely walk. If you have time, head to Andong Soju & Traditional Food Museum to discover the traditional culinary culture of Korea or meet the traditional lifestyle and houses in Hahoe Village.

  • Introduction

    *Actor Park Ki-woong
There is a line that separates good and evil, but not for actor Park Ki-woong: in the hands of this prolific actor, even the most despicable villains are reborn into sympathetic and unforgettable characters, often becoming breakout characters in many of the TV and OTT shows that he features in. Park’s most recognizable role was in the TV show “Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019),” which led to his “re-discovery” among TV fans. Park comes from Andong in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and his love for his hometown is well-documented. This tour examines Andong’s diversity, delivered by a true son of Andong.

“My hometown of Andong has a lot to offer besides the most famous sight, Hahoe Village. I used to play in the old city center since I was a kid, and Sinse-dong Mural Village there is a great place to take a slow walk while enjoying the interesting murals. When it comes to walking, Woryeonggyo Bridge and Nakgang Mulgil Park can’t be beaten. If you enjoy good food, I recommend Andong Soju & Traditional Food Museum. The museum has a great exhibition of traditional Korean food. Woryeonggyo Bridge became quite famous in social media, so it sees a lot of visitors lately. There are many other places where you can get some good views from, so I really recommend visiting Andong.
