Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, can be found to the south of Seoul. It is famous for being the site of Seoul Grand Park and Seoul Land. Seoul Grand Park is a theme park for children, featuring parks, a zoo, a museum, and attractions. Seoul Land is an amusement park where festivals are held throughout the season, making it a popular place to wind down among people of all ages and genders. But Gwacheon’s peak is arguably in summer, when various music festivals are held in Seoul Grand Park. Aficionados of music are sure to find something to cater to their tastes in Gwacheon’s summertime. If you are more inclined toward classical art, don’t miss the special exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Gwacheon. * Comedian Lee Soo-ji
A genius comedian with a penchant for imitation, capable of taking a thousand masks and thousand voices, many people say that Lee Soo-ji’s smiling face can be found in the faces of other celebrities. Her choice of base camp for her healing trip was Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do. Let’s hear from Lee Soo-ji, the comedian, mother, and caretaker of her family, as she describes just what makes Gwacheon so appealing to everyone.
“Because of my job, I often spend a lot of energy on stage or in front of a camera. So I try to visit museums, art galleries, and the like, both to top off my energy stores and find ideas for my next skit. The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is one of my favorite art museums in Korea. When I visit exhibitions that stand at the cutting edge of contemporary art, I often find that I can develop new ideas and prepare my next skit better. The museum in Gwacheon, in particular, hosts exhibitions catering to children and teenagers, so it is quite famous for family trips. For me, that means that I can go there with my son and nephews. I also have access to Seoul Land and my favorite cafe on the way to the museum, so Gwacheon works like a base camp for my healing trips.“
