  • Introduction

Artisan Lee Jong-ki is Korea’s first whiskey master blender. During his studies abroad for brewing technology, he was shocked to hear that traditional Korean liquor made of ginseng was receiving bad reviews. Afterwards, for 15 years he researched over 30 kinds of Korean ingredients until he finally found omija. Naturally, he moved to Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, home to the berry.

The artisan developed the world’s first rose wine called OmyRose using Mungyeong omija which is named so because it carries five tastes: sour, sweet, bitter, salty, and spicy. Due to OmyRose’s high quality and value it was recognized even at Korea’s global summit as the official banquet alcoholic drink.

The artisan’s recommended travel course in Mungyeong revolves around the theme of “receiving news worthy of celebration.” The mountain trail in Mungyeonsaejae that was once known as dreadful has now become a beautiful path with magnificent views of nature. The clay and great weather has also led to the development of pottery. The nearby Mungyeong Open Set is a popular destination for travelers as it is the filming location of countless Korean historical dramas and movies. Travel to Mungyeong on a trip to satisfy your five senses.
