Yonsei University (연세대학교)
Yonsei University is one of the most prestigious universities in Seoul. It was a filming location for dramas such as “Cheer up (2022)” and “True Beauty (2020).” The university has beautifully designed stone buildings covered in delicate vines like the Appenzeller Hall.
Sogang University (서강대학교)
Sogang University is famous for Loyola Library, the first fully opened-shelf library of Korea. It’s a great place to stop by for a leisurely walk while looking around the nearby Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
Ewha Womans University (이화여자대학교)
The first women’s university in Korea. The underground building was designed by world-renowned architect Dominique Perrault. The campus is surrounded by many restaurants and shops that appeal to the youth.
Seoul National University (서울대학교)
Seoul University represents Korean academics and has the largest campus site. The school campus is located on the outskirts of Gwanaksan Mountain and boasts beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and foliage in fall. According to an urban myth, high school graduates who write a wishful note on the school’s trademark 샤-shaped statue have a high rate of getting accepted to Seoul University.
The author of this itinerary is a translator and editor at the Korea Tourism Organization. They came to Korea for their studies and went to a university in Seoul. With many special memories in mind, the author recommends a campus tour in Seoul to both tourists and students. Not only does each school have a charm of its own, but visitors can see a different side of Korea that is rarely introduced through travel guides. The author also recommends, if possible, dining at a student cafeteria for a unique experience. Korean universities are also often the venue of K-pop festivals and events and can easily be reached by taking the subway.
