    Daecheon Beach in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, is famous for its mineral-rich mud. Formed over many years, Boryeong’s mud is known to be excellent for skincare. Boryeong Mud Festival began as a way for the people in the region to share this gift of nature with the rest of the world. Now celebrating its 27th year, the event has become one of the most popular summer festivals in Korea.     1. How to Get to Boryeong

    If you are using public transportation, there are two options for direct travel between Seoul and Daecheon.

    It takes about 5 minutes on foot to reach Daecheon Station from Boryeong Bus Terminal. The station is quite close to Daecheon Beach, where the festival is hosted, so taking a taxi to the festival area is recommended. If you are driving, it takes about two hours to reach the festival site from Hongik University Station.

    The festival is divided into the Regular Zone for adults and the Family Zone for families with children. There’s even a Pet Zone for visitors with canine companions. In addition, a variety of rides, including a Mud Slide and Mud Spin, offer a thrilling and messy adventure. If you want to test your mettle, head to the obstacle race at the Mud Challenge. Try to clear all ten obstacles and feel the thrill of achievement. If you are an international visitor, you can take part in the program with your festival ticket if there are any open spots.

    Music is an integral part of any festival, and Boryeong Mud Festival is no exception. EDM performances, along with cool waterbombs, take place every day during the festival. Moreover, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays bring different genres of music with the help of buskers onstage. The event also includes music competitions, such as Mud Rock Festa, K-HipHop Festival, and Trot Champion on MBC.

    Various amenities cater to visitors’ convenience at Boryeong Mud Festival. You can, for instance, wash away the mud with outdoor showers or take refuge from rain or strong sunlight under pine trees in rest areas. In particular, forest shelters offer you a place to take a nap or grab a packed lunch under large shades.

    The area across from the rest area is the Refresh Zone, which hosts a variety of events. For instance, you can get face painting with colored mud or take part in quizzes to win gifts. If you feel hungry, head to the food trucks; the menu is quite varied, from sushi to grilled chicken skewers, tteokbokki, and beer, and the prices are quite reasonable as well. Once you’ve had your fill, jump back into the mud and celebrate with visitors from around the world.

    • Tip! Parents who purchased “adult tickets for Regular Zone” are allowed to enter the Family Zone with their children. However, adults who purchased parents tickets for Family Zone are not allowed to enter the Regular Zone. If you need to move back and forth between the two spaces, make sure to get the Regular Zone ticket.
