A resting space for the wind passing through the Baekdudaegan Mountain Ridge High Valley Hotel
An altitude of 700 meters above sea level is known to be the most livable for humans. You can easily find areas that rest at an altitude of 700 meters anywhere in Gangwon-do Province. Jeongseon, one of these areas, is a tourist destination with unique charms. Even though it is a remote area called the “town closest to the sky,” it is home to Korea’s largest and bustling traditional market as well as Korea’s largest coal mine.
Jeongseon is also the place where you can appreciate the pristine nature of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, which includes Hambaeksan Mountain. There are many other attractions that must be seen when in the area, including various leisure facilities such as the skywalk and zipline to escape the summer heat and ski resorts to enjoy the winter season to the fullest. Indeed, Jeongseon is a region full of charms to be discovered.
High Valley Hotel is an ideal hotel for those who want to travel around Jeongseon and Taebaek. Located in Gohan-eup, a town connecting the two regions, the hotel is also close to many tourist attractions such as Kangwon Land, Hambaeksan Mountain, and Samtan Art Mine.
The hotel rooms are largely divided into five types. There are Korean-style Rooms for those who prefer ondol rooms / underfloor-heated rooms as well as Twin, Double, and Triple Rooms that vary by the type and number of beds. A Twin Room has two single beds and a Double Room has one double bed. A Triple Room is equipped with one double bed and one single bed.
In addition, there are Condominium-style Rooms, which are the biggest features of this hotel. The Condominium-style Rooms, which can accommodate from four to six guests, are the only rooms where cooking is allowed. They are larger than other types of rooms, offering a Korean-style bedroom without beds. If you need to cook food during your stay, we recommend choosing a Condominium-style Room.
High Valley Hotel is one of the well-located accommodations in downtown Gohan-eup. Not far from the hotel is Gohan Station on the Taebaek Line, and nearby is the center of town. You can also reach High1 Resort, a leading ski resort of the region on foot. An electric car charging facility is installed in the hotel’s parking lot in consideration of all guests with electric vehicles.

The town of Gohan-eup in Jeongseon was a representative coal mining area in Korea. However, as the coal industry declined due to technological advancements, the coal mines in this area began to close one by one. The facilities of the mining company Samcheoktanjwa located at the foot of Hambaeksan Mountain also faced the same fate. When its facilities, which had operated for 38 years starting in 1964, were closed, people transformed it into an art space, the current Samtan Art Mine. It is now a place where the past and the present coexist in a subtle harmony. Contemporary art works are exhibited in this space where the coal mining facilities are preserved. Visitors can see the traces of the old coal mine and see creative works of contemporary artists all in one place.
