Punggyeong, a place of the seasons
A majestic green pine tree is painted over the brick on the diagonal alley near Sungkyunkwan University. On a wooden plate, you can read the word “travel is love.” This is a place for sharing love. Punggyeong is a guesthouse where visitors can experience a hanok (a traditional Korean house) and it was opened in 2016. Open the majestic front gate and enter. Punggyeong is built in a “ㄷ” shape and surrounded by walls. The fast-moving time of Seoul comes to a rest inside the walls of Pyunggyeong.
Punggyeong is different in every season, so Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter were chosen as the names of the guestrooms. Whichever season you decide to stay at Punggyeong, it is always beautiful. There are also various types of guestrooms, from a single room to a family room that accommodates up to 5 persons, and you can book the entirety of Punggyeong. In fact, company workshops and gatherings are often held here.
The Spring and Autumn guestrooms are western style rooms, and the Summer and Winter guestrooms are Korean style rooms. The Spring and Autumn rooms have a bed for foreigners who are not comfortable with the culture of sleeping on the floor. In the Summer and Winter rooms, you can find colorful cushions and neatly folded blankets. A traditional Korean fan and paintings on the wall may also catch your eyes.
One of the many charms of Punggyeong is its homelike kitchen. Various utensils, dishes, seasonings, cups, and cutting boards are available just like in the kitchen of a well-lived home that someone has been living here for a long time so it is perfect for cooking. But don’t worry about breakfast. Punggyeong serves Korean dishes for breakfast, and you can experience traditional teas made by the owner.
Thanks to the warm welcome of the owners, the wall at the entrance of Punggyeong has been decorated with letters of previous visitors. “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. At Punggyeong, one year passed by in what felt like a single day. Thank you, it was delightful.”
