If a destination is difficult to reach by public transportation or a little far to walk, a bicycle is an excellent choice. Bicycle rental services are available in various cities in Korea and most cities have nice bike paths. In particular, if you ride along the Hangang River in Seoul, you will be rewarded with beautiful views that combine the city's skyline and lighting on bridges.
Types of public bicycles
Public bicycle services in Korea are divided into those operated by local governments and by private companies. Public bikes are only available in certain cities such as Seoul, Daejeon,Gyeongju, Gwangju, Gongju, and Yeosu, and are relatively cheap. A notable public bike service is Seoul's "Ttareungi" whose name originates from ttareung, which, in Korean, is the sound of a bell installed on a bicycle. Seoul Bike can easily be found throughout Seoul and even non-Korean residents can conveniently use them.
Bike services run by companies can be used in broader areas than public bikes. The services are available on each mobile app of the operating company, and the most popular service is Kakao T Bike run by Kakao. It is available in several cities across the country, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwnagju, and Incheon, and there are also areas where you can use an electric bicycle so be sure to check it out before use!

When you cross a street at a crosswalk, you need to get off the bike and walk across with it. When you ride on a bike path, you need to keep to the right. Finally, it is strictly prohibited to ride a bike under the influence. Wearing safety gears such as a helmet and knee pads are strongly recommended.
You need to ride your bike on the rightmost edge of the vehicle road. However, you may not ride a bike in sections where bicycle traffic is prohibited by a safety sign. In inevitable cases such as on a damaged road or construction zone, you may ride a bike at the edge of the sidewalk but you must not interfere with pedestrian traffic.
