Busan Metropolitan City has launched BUSAN Pay, the first foreigner-exclusive regional voucher to be released in Korea. Inspired by “Dongbaekjeon,” the local voucher system in Busan, BUSAN Pay includes a variety of tourist-friendly features in addition to its main function as a payment method.
BUSAN Pay is convenient and easy to use. First, pick up the prepaid card at the designated location, then register the card on the BUSAN Pay app, and lastly, load the card balance through the app with your credit card. The app also supports QR code payment at affiliated stores as well as cashback benefits. Affiliated stores includes businesses that accept Dongbaekjeon as well as select shopping malls such as department stores and duty free shops. Take note that cashback benefits are not available at shopping malls.
BUSAN Pay also acts as a travel guide, providing information on major tourist attractions and restaurants in English, Japanese and Chinese. BUSAN Pay users can also purchase Visit Busan Pass and a 1-day or 3-day transit QR pass through the app. If you want to use BUSAN Pay as a transportation card, apply for a physical card equipped with the transportation card function at a designated Busan Bank branch.
The BUSAN Pay app is supported in both Android and iOS. Search “BUSAN Pay” at the respective app market to download and sign up using your email address. For inquiries, contact the BUSAN Pay Call Center (English, Japanese, Chinese) or submit your inquiry through the 1:1 Inquiries section in the app.
