Trout is a member of the salmon family that returns to Pyeongchang in winter. Known for inhabiting clean and cold waters, the trout symbolizes the clean and pristine environment of Pyeongchang. Every winter, Pyeongchang’s rivers are covered with thick ice, and the Pyeongchang Trout Festival draws many visitors who brave the cold to enjoy the event. The festival primarily features ice fishing through small holes drilled in the ice, with popular activities including tent camping at the fishing site and barehand fishing. The festival also offers various winter recreational facilities, such as ice sledding, ensuring fun for both children and adults.

    ◎ Tip
Home to the coldest winters in Korea, Pyeongchang hosted the Winter Olympics in 2018. Wearing thick clothes and winter equipment to the festival is recommended as most of the events are held outdoors.
