Tips
Picnic
The Hangang River is Seoul’s defining landmark, attracting people year-round. Visiting Mangwon Hangang River Park is a must to fully immerse yourself in Korean culture and to truly enjoy the Mangwon area. Mangwon Hangang River Park’s location next to the market, cafés, restaurants, and neighborhood makes it a popular destination.
Picnic by the Hangang River
One of the best ways to enjoy this place is by having a picnic on the lush grass right next to the river, soaking in the relaxing views of the Hangang River as it unfolds before you. You can also bring your tent and set it up in the park’s designated tent area. Or just bring your mat and some food you’ve packed from the market to complete your picnic.
Ride a bike along the Hangang River
Another experience that cannot be missed at Mangwon Hangang Park is bike riding. You’ll find Ttareungi, Seoul’s public bikes, right at the park’s entrance. If you’re an active traveler who prefers a bit of adventure rather than just relaxing by the river, cycling is a perfect choice. Pedal along the Hangang River with the breeze on your face and Seoul’s beautiful backdrop unfolding around you.
Glimpse of Yeouido Business District from Mangwon Hangang Park
Start your ride from Mangwon Hangang Park and head toward Nanji Hangang Park, with the green landscapes of the five World Parks on one side and the Hangang River flowing on the other. If you have time, explore these World Parks—especially Haneul Park, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Seoul. Prefer a skyline view instead? Cycle in the opposite direction, and you’ll be greeted by the striking Yeouido business district as you continue your ride.
Mangwon Hangang Park is also one of the stops for the newly launched Hangang Bus, a new transportation using ferries. It’s a great way to travel between different Hangang Parks and other major areas of Seoul while saving time and avoiding road traffic.
Tips
• Best time to visit: Although the Hangang River is beautiful throughout the day and you will always find something to do, the sunset views from Mangwon Hangang Park are truly something special – one side painted by the setting sun, and other side glowing as Yeouido district basks in golden sunlight.
• Don’t have a picnic mat? Near the park’s entrance, you’ll find rental spots offering mats and tents in various packages. These range from basic picnic mats and lap blankets to bundles that include power banks, wet wipes, Bluetooth speakers, lanterns, and fans—making it easy to enjoy a picnic without bringing anything yourself.
• Using Ttareungi Bike: Ttareungi is Seoul’s public bike system and a convenient way to explore the Hangang River and the city. Bikes are available for rent at numerous rental stations across Seoul, and you can drop them off at any other station when you’re done. To get started, check the official website or app for step-by-step instructions on renting, riding, and returning the bikes. It’s a fun and eco-friendly way to see Seoul at your own pace.
