Gangwon State is hosting the GANGWON 2024 Winter Youth Games January 19 – February 1. It is the first time the Games have been held in Asia, making this event especially meaningful. Gangwon State is more than capable of hosting this exciting event, following the successful hosting of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games.
More than 1,900 youth athletes from over 80 countries will participate in the Games in a range of winter sports, including short track speed skating, figure skating, and bobsleigh. The games will kick off on January 19 with opening ceremonies held jointly at Gangneung Oval and Pyeongchang Dome. Excluding the opening ceremony at Gangneung, all of the sporting events are free. Tickets can be reserved through the official website after signing up for membership.
The host cities of Pyeongchang, Gangneung, Jeongseon, and Hoengseong are famous for their beauty that shines brightest in winter. Many tourists flock to the area to enjoy winter activities such as skiing and sledding, and brave the cold to take part in icy winter festivals. Between the Games and local attractions, foods, and festivals, you’ll have a packed schedule when visiting Gangwon State!
