On December 30, 2025, the Donghae Line KTX-Eum high-speed train began operations, making travel between Gangneung and Busan along the east coast faster and more convenient. The journey now takes approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes, reducing travel time by more than one hour compared to the ITX-Maeum.

The train runs through Gangwon State and Gyeongsangbuk-do to Busan, stopping at a total of eleven stations: Gangneung, Jeongdongjin, Mukho, Donghae, Samcheok, Uljin, Yeongdeok, Pohang, Gyeongju, Taehwagang, and Bujeon. It operates six times daily, with three trains in each direction. One of the biggest advantages of this new route is that passengers can travel long distances without transfers, improving overall travel efficiency.

In addition, the Donghae Line has tracks that run along the east coast, offering beautiful views of the East Sea. In certain regions, major attractions such as ocean rail bikes and marine cable cars offer discounts to visitors who present a valid train ticket. Tickets can be booked through the Korail website or the mobile app, Korail Talk.
