Somehow it turned out that I had a fairly biased feeling towards the Yellow Sea. It is not that I did not like it, but I definitely favored the East Sea more. My boyfriend and I were supposed to celebrate our anniversary but he had to visit a conference close to the Yellow Sea the day before.
We started looking for different options around. Finally, we found Boryeong, which as it was said was a very popular destination during the summer since the famous Boryeong Mud Festival is held there annually. Honestly, I did not have many expectations about this city in November, therefore we decided to “compensate” it with a beautiful and romantic hotel. We found a superb Daynice Hotel, which is located right on the Daecheon Beach, on Booking.com and made a reservation without hesitation.
Well, I have to admit that I was completely wrong; not only about Boryeong, but the Yellow Sea in general. Seeing the beauty of Daecheon Beach made me wonder why the Yellow Sea was named "yellow" if the water was absolutely azure! Imagine this azure sea, where solar glares sparkle like thousands of diamonds. And all this beauty is surrounded by the golden beach with the pine trees along the seacoast. The Deacheon Beach, which is one of popular beach in Korea, is just stunning! Here you can find many restaurants offering various seafood dishes, and lovely coffee shops with panoramic views of the sea.
You can also do many activities, like renting the ATV or scooter, karting, zip trekking, sky biking, paragliding, and other water activities which you can find at the Daecheon Tower. Initially, we went to that tower to visit a cafe on the top floor (20th floor), which offers mind-blowing panoramic views of the sea coast. While drinking our coffee, we saw people trying a Zip Trek there and we decided to try it as well. It was INCREDIBLE! Only imagine that you are riding a zip line and going down from a 52-meter high tower, while seeing a panoramic view of the entire seacoast!
TIP: You will get a discount on drinks at the rooftop cafe if you show them your zipline or karting ticket.

After these exciting activities, we decided to try the famous seafood stew Maeun-tang (매운탕).
Although a bit spicy, it was very delicious and the amount of various seafood that was generously given justified the price of 40,000 WON.
After lunch, we planned to go to a traditional Korean garden Sanghwawon, which is located in Jukdo Island, 5 km away from Daecheon Beach.
Before our visit, I could not find almost any reviews about this garden and was quite skeptical about it. I should say that the garden is very underestimated. The complex consists of various zones and smaller gardens, which include Hanok houses, stone sculptures, and ponds. All this beauty is connected through a 2 km long wooden corridor that surrounds the entire Jukdo Island, making it possible to walk there even when it rains. This hidden gem of Boryeong turned out to be so beautiful and relaxing! The sun's rays breaking through thousands of pines and the azure sea visible behind them cannot leave anyone indifferent! The pine forest smell and the waves hitting the cliffs were also so stress-relieving and very calming.
TIP: the entrance ticket includes a cup of coffee or tea and a traditional Korean rice cake.

We decided to celebrate our anniversary with a festive dinner in one of the restaurants at the Daecheon Beach. We found a place with a stunning view of the sunset and ordered king prawns and various grilled coquilles. The price was slightly expensive (50,000 WON for 1 kg of king prawns and 70,000 WON for the coquilles) but we really wanted to treat ourselves for the anniversary. Plus, they gave us so many side dishes for free that it was absolutely worth it. The dinner was just great, especially the prawns!!!
TIP: there is a high probability that on weekdays (Monday~Thursday) the prices will be lower due to the fewer number of tourists. Also, do not forget to bargain! We managed to talk the price down from 70,000 WON to only 50,000 WON for the prawns.
We started the next day with a lovely morning walk along the golden Daecheon Beach, drank a cup of coffee with a croissant and headed for new adventures at the “unknown” Gaehwa Art Park (개화예술공원). The Gaehwa Art was another hidden gem of Boryeong. The park turned out to be a huge and picturesque place with more than 1500 outdoor sculptures and various thematic exhibitions. Here you can find a modern museum that represents works by both Korean and foreign artists, a huge botanical garden, a beautiful pond, a flower cafe, restaurant, and even a small farm (which is very popular among the kids since they can feed animals there).
The park has much to offer both for families and couples. It will never be boring there if you are a solo-traveler. Lastly, it should be a #mustvisit place for Instagram lovers, since it has so many photo spots, where, I promise, you will take gorgeous pictures!

It was already getting dark in the evening, and we had the last thing left on our "to do" list before coming back to Seoul. As we found out, Boryeong is also one of the main areas in Korea for high-quality oyster production. There is a VERY popular Cheonbuk Oyster Village (천북굴단지 갈산굴수산) a 30 minute drive from Daecheon Beach. Seriously, I have never seen so many similar restaurants, serving the same dish in the same area (it seems, that there were over 100 restaurants!!!).
Since all the restaurants were very similar to each other, we just went into the first random place with a free table. My boyfriend loves oysters very much, so he ordered grilled and steamed oysters for me to try. Well, this was the first time I tried oysters… Honestly, I was not as excited as my boyfriend and all the other people at the restaurant were. Probably, oysters are just not for me. However, I was absolutely SHOCKED by the prices there. We had around 50 oysters in total and paid only 30,000 WON for two people, which seems to be insanely cheap.

Well, what can I say? Our romantic weekend and anniversary celebration was absolutely lovely. We visited several stunning places, took thousands of pretty pictures, tried various activities, and tasted delicious local delicacies. It turned out that instead of the expected “boring” weekend in Boryeong we spent one of the most memorable dates ever and looked at Boryeong from a completely different perspective.
We were looking for something special and romantic for my boyfriend and I to celebrate our anniversary next to the sea. I found the Daynice Hotel at Booking.com where it was said that this hotel was popular among couples. The pictures and reviews were very promising and the magnificent view from the panoramic window made me fall for the Daynice Hotel.
We arrived at 3 PM and the hospitable receptionist gave us the keys to the room located on the 7th floor. As soon as we entered the room, I realized that this is it! It was exactly the room I wanted, the view that I dreamed about and that stylish, romantic atmosphere in every single detail of the design. It was luxe! The spacious room was filled with sunbeams breaking through the window, and outside the window was an absolutely stunning view! I ran out onto the terrace with a panoramic view and began to listen to the sounds of the surf from the opened window. It was so good there, so relaxing and calm, that we did not even want to go outside for a while…
The panoramic window offers incredible views of the entire Daecheon Beach, as the Daynice Hotel is located in its very center. On the promenade next to the beach there are many restaurants (most offering dishes with seafood) and cafes. In general, the hotel has a great location. Nearby is the scenic Jukdo Island (죽도), as well as the Boryeong Mud Museum (보령 머드 박물관) and other attractions. In addition, right in front of the hotel on Daecheon Beach, the famous Boryeong Mud Festival takes place every summer.
The hotel was opened in 2017, so everything is very new, clean and shining. There is no need to list room equipment since it completely corresponded to the level of a luxury boutique hotel. I would also emphasize that the toiletries were of superior quality. In addition, we were pleased to see the sand cleaning and feet washing equipment next to the entrance, which was very useful after the long walk along the beach. Lastly, I would like to draw attention to the staff who were always willing to help in a friendly manner, gave recommendations and guided us in English. We decided to eat breakfast outside (though regretful as the one provided by the hotel for 11,000 WON was very worthy) so we did not reserve it in the hotel. I only wanted to ask the manager where is the nearest coffee-shop here but she offered us coffee for free. So thoughtful!

All the rooms have panoramic ocean views. A semi-buffet style breakfast was available upon request for 11,000 WON per person, but there are many restaurants and cafes around. The hotel is very popular and therefore it is better to book it in advance, especially on weekends. There is a glass wall between the toilet and shower, so everything is transparent.
