    While traveling throughout Korea, there are many ways to get a glimpse of the nation’s traditions and culture; trying the food or visiting ancient buildings to name a few, but nothing compares to trying on hanbok, the traditional clothing of Korea. Although hanbok is generally only worn on special occasions or during national holidays, it is growing in popularity among young couples and international visitors. Visit cultural centers like the ones featured here to try on a beautiful hanbok! The styles of hanbok available and the rental fees will vary by each program so be sure to check in advance!

    The Insa-dong PR Center is a living museum of modern history and Korean culture. The center offers on-site commentated tour guides and assistance in multiple languages (English, Japanese and Chinese available) in order to promote the understanding of Korean traditions and history among locals and international visitors alike. In addition, the center provides tourism leaflets and diverse cultural events such as trying on traditional clothing and musical performances, as well as free wireless internet access for all visitors. The center has a particularly wide selection of hanbok designs, including ones that were worn in the royal court, which feature colors favored by high-level officials, as well as designs that represent various social classes of Korea’s past.

    Yongin Korean Folk Village

    The Korean Folk Village is a theme park that takes visitors back to the Joseon period. To fully enjoy the folk village, opt for the popular hanbok package sold at the ticket booth. The package includes a three-hour hanbok rental and one-day admission to the village. Detailed information about discounts can be found on the official website, so it is recommended to check before visiting. Exploring the village and participating in diverse programs in a hanbok will make you truly blend in with the traditional Korean atmosphere. Not only is the folk village a great place to look around in hanbok, you’ll also get great photo results to remember your trip by.


    Deoksugung Daehanmun Traditional Costume Experience

    Anyone can put on traditional clothing and take a memorable snapshot in front Daehanmun Gate, the main gate of Deoksugung Palace. You can sign up for the experience for free on-site. The program is available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 10:30 to 15:30. Although you only get five minutes in the outfit, it’s enough time take photos of this special occasion. Take note that you cannot enter the palace with the free hanbok on.

    Deoksugung Daehanmun Traditional Costume Experience

    Free Palace Admission in Hanbok

    • Offered palaces: Gyeongbokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace
    • Participation info: The four main palaces in Seoul offer free admission to visitors wearing hanbok. There are several hanbok rental shops around the palaces that provide hanbok in a wide range of designs and colors, including traditional costumes and modern contemporary hanbok. You can also borrow accessories and get your hair done to match your outfit at most hanbok rental shops.
