Trivium’s impressive concrete exterior
Trivium is a Latin word meaning “three roads” or “three learnings.” In modern times, it refers to the foundational liberal arts subjects of the medieval era: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. However, Trivium, a space for yoga and meditation in Pyeongtaek, redefines the “three learnings” not as academic disciplines but as elements of nature: sky, mountain, and water. To this is added the concept of “emptying,” completing a philosophy of learning through nature and finding fulfillment in letting go. Set in the quiet mountain area of Pyeongtaek, overlooking a serene reservoir far from the city’s noise, it offers a rare chance for self-exploration through the practice of release.

View of Trivium
Trivium’s philosophy, which values the virtue of emptiness, is clearly reflected in its architecture. Its concrete finish strips away unnecessary ornamentation, while large floor-to-ceiling windows maximize openness. This thoughtful design draws the surrounding natural scenery fully into the interior.

Trivista, Trivium’s signature space

Trivium’s philosophy is most clearly embodied on the second floor, in a space called Trivista. Open at both the front and back, it serves as a breezeway for wind, light, and scenery to flow through freely. A piece of fabric hung at the entrance visually captures the movement of air, adding a soft, fluid rhythm to the otherwise linear space.

The Trivium Hall on the first floor is just as beloved by visitors as Trivista above. The panoramic view framed by its floor-to-ceiling windows offers true relaxation. Visitors can sit in floor chairs with backrests or lie down for a brief nap.

Basement-level exhibition space
On the basement level, an exhibition space interprets Trivium’s philosophy through art. Using lighting, media art, and objects, it sensorially expresses the concept of emptiness. Unlike other areas of Trivium, this secluded environment fosters inward reflection while appreciating the works on display.

Rooftop of Trivium
The rooftop of Trivium is designed to immerse visitors in the sounds of nature without external distractions. Enclosed on all four sides by concrete walls, the space invites you to direct your attention to the sky and mountains. It is also called “the theater” because it serves as a venue for small concerts, theatrical performances, and film screenings on clear days.

Although Trivium has two floors above ground and one below, its hillside location blurs the distinction between levels. Regardless of which floor visitors are on, they can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding natural landscape.
