  • Find the Healing Energy of the Sea of Life: Wando Marine Healing Center

We feel comfortable in the water, likely because our bodies remember the time we spent as fetuses in our mothers’ wombs. Water is the spring of life, and Wando Marine Healing Center is a healing space that utilizes seawater and marine resources to offer premium wellness programs.

Opened in November 2023, the Wando Marine Healing Center is the first of its kind in Korea. It offers sixteen types of marine healing programs, including the seawater-based Thalassa Pool, the Meditation Pool, bubble therapies, the Seaweed Spa, and stone therapy. The Wando Marine Healing Center’s Thalassa Pool uses double-filtered seawater from Sinjihaebyeon Beach, located right in front of the center. All therapeutic tools used in the healing programs are made with Wando specialties like kelp, seaweed, hijiki, and citrus. For a fuller wellness experience, combine your visit with the Marine Climate Healing Center and the Marine Culture Healing Center. The former offers Nordic walking, beach yoga, and beach meditation programs, while the latter provides cooking, craft, and aromatherapy classes.

A to Z of Marine Healing

The Wando Marine Healing Center is situated in a two-story building. The first floor is dedicated to basic programs and features the Meditation Pool, seaweed and bubble therapy facilities, mud therapy, and more, centered around the Thalassa Pool. Equipped with hydromassage facilities such as air bubble, walking massage, and dream bath, which are effective for fatigue recovery and pain relief, the Thalassa Pool is great for hydrotherapy for seniors and a fun place for children to play in the water. Don’t miss the free pool exercise programs (at 11:00, 14:00, and 16:00) with professional instructors. The water temperature in the Thalassa Pool is maintained at about 36℃, similar to human body temperature.

If you want smooth baby skin, don’t miss the seaweed and bubble therapy and mud therapy programs. Kelp is famously good for skin hydration. These programs use a variety of bath salts, made not only with kelp but also seaweed, hijiki, and loquat. Seawater mist therapy, where you inhale mineral-rich saline groundwater (which has lower salt content than seawater), is ideal for mitigating respiratory conditions and allergies. Underwater meditation, which requires expert guidance, is available with reservations.

Top-Notch Service That Matches the Best Therapy

The second floor of the Wando Marine Healing Center houses a space where you can delve deeper into the world of marine therapy. It offers eleven programs in total, from the Seaweed Spa to the Seawater Pool Watsu, seaweed mud wrap, and stone therapy. These are divided into therapy types such as Stress Relief, Detox, Metabolism Boost, Musculoskeletal Health, Aqua Skin Care, and Aquatic Rehabilitation for personalized recommendations. For instance, the “Stress Relief” category includes Vichy shower, sound massage, seaweed color therapy, and seawater mud wrap programs, while the “Detox” category recommends the Vichy shower, sound massage, stone therapy, and seawater mud wrap. There is also a measurement room that allows you to compare the effects before and after the treatment.

Watsu therapy, sound therapy, and tea therapy facilities on the second floor are available for free use, regardless of recommendations. The Wando Marine Healing Center collaborates with expert therapists to offer services that rival the quality of those provided by top hotels and therapy centers. Please note that swimsuits, rash guards, and swimming caps are required for all visitors.

    Wellness Program

The Wando Marine Healing Center’s wellness programs are divided into basic and premium categories. The basic program allows you to access the first-floor facilities, which include the Thalassa Pool, seawater mist therapy, the Meditation Pool, seaweed and bubble therapy facilities, and mud therapy facilities. The premium program offers access to all first-floor facilities and four therapy services of your choice from the eleven second-floor facilities. Premium program participants can use Watsu therapy, sound therapy, and tea therapy facilities on the second floor free of charge.

    Wando Tower

Located at the summit of Dongmangsan Mountain, Wando Tower is one of the most popular tourist sites in Wando. This 76m-high observatory offers a great view of Wando’s islands, such as Cheongsando, Bogildo, Nohwado, Soando, and Sinjido Islands, standing like jewels off the coast. On clear days, you can even see Jeju Island and Geomundo Island. The hiking trail that winds around Dongmangsan Mountain begins from the beacon next to the observatory. The first and second floors of the observatory host an exhibition hall dedicated to local specialties, a rest area, and a chroma key photo area. The best view is at night when the surrounding areas are illuminated by lights.
