The National Chilgok Supchewon consists of a building with 10-person and 16-person group guestrooms, 2-person and 5-person guestrooms, an auditorium, a seminar room, Danurigil Trail, and other facilities for programs such as The House in the Forest. The facility offers programs for both group and non-group visitors. Visiting as an individual does not mean you cannot enjoy the National Chilgok Supchewon. Just let them know you’re coming in advance.
Enjoy the Forest with the Five Senses in ‘Five Senses Bingo’
There are many ways to enjoy the forest. You can sit still and feel the energy of the forest in the wind. It’s also fun to walk in the soil with your bare feet touching the ground. But what if we use all five senses, there’s a Five Senses Bingo, a program that allows you to experience the forest using your senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Children can experience the mystery of nature and satisfy their curiosity, and adults can take a short trip back to their childhood.
Walk along the deck of the reservoir with a number of tools that will help feel the five senses. The first senses you experience are sight and touch. Stand in front of an oak tree, which gives materials used to make corks. Have you ever looked closely at the texture of a tree bark? Using a tool called a loupe, examine the depth, wrinkles, and patterns of the bark. The magnified view of the tree bark gives you a considerable sense of depth, like a canyon. It's like there's another world inside. It feels soft to your touch.
When you are up close, the mountain feels like a world in and of itself. Look at it from far away, and there is something that looks like another giant sculpture. Look at where the tour guide points, and you can see Geumosan Mountain, also called Wabulsan Mountain because it resembles the Buddha lying down. You can also listen to the story of the trees while walking on the deck path. You can pick and smell the leaves of Japanese pepper trees that repels insects, and look up at the sky from a different perspective by holding a square mirror under your nose. Experience the unique senses while hearing and enjoying the story of the forest in a different way. That is what the Five Senses Bingo program is all about.
‘'My Family's Forest Play’: A Toy Made with Nature
Unless you are in a group, there are limits to the programs available at the National Chilgok Supchewon. The “My Family's Forest Play” program is available for those visitors. If you want to enjoy a whole day in the forest with your children, there is no other activity as simple and enjoyable as these little games. You are given a crafting kit and a pamphlet at the information center, and then the whole family can enjoy the forest together. You can play Jegichagi by holding pine cones and twigs and connecting them with a string, or you can make fireworks with paper cups by picking up fallen leaves on the ground. We suggest playing the games in areas full of trees, such as Toriyua Supchewon and the Forest of Conversation.
The House in the Forest: A Cozy Shelter in Nature
The building for group visitors is located at the entrance of the National Chilgok Supchewon. However, 2-person and 4-person guestrooms can be also found on the top. There aren’t many people passing by, and it is quiet all around. So, it feels like resting in the forest. The exterior looks like a lovely small cabin in the woods. You will find a cozy space filled with sunlight when you enter the accommodation. The building has two floors, and the green world stretches across outside the window. It is a perfect place to forget about the city filled with gray buildings for a while.
NOTE
A simple Forest Orienteering program for people of all genders and ages
You are required to register for at least one program to use the accommodation facilities at the National Chilgok Supchewon. If you are a visitor who does not want to do the programs, you can apply for “Forest Orienteering,” the cheapest and simplest program that costs a mere KRW 2,000. In the program, you will find the answers to the five missions while walking around Supchewon. It is simple and relaxing activity designed to ensure that everyone can enjoy Supchewon.
