Located on Dalsanpo Beach in Nam-myeon, Taean County, Chungcheongnam-do Province, the Taean Thalassotherapy Center is a comprehensive thalassotherapy facility that utilizes the abundant marine healing resources of the West Sea. Opened in January 2026, the center offers both professional therapies enjoyed in indoor spaces with ocean views and outdoor programs set against the backdrop of the sea and a pine forest, allowing visitors to experience relaxation and healing in nature at the same time.
Wellness Program
Along with hydrotherapy in the bath pool, the center offers a wide range of programs, from indoor therapies such as mud, salt, and oxygen therapy to outdoor activities like beach yoga, Nordic walking, and barefoot walking on the beach. Visitors can choose the program that best suits their condition and goals, and reservations can be made through the website starting 60 days before the desired visit date.
Thalassotherapy: Experiencing the Sea with Your Body
At the Taean Thalassotherapy Center, experiencing the sea goes beyond simply looking at it. You experience the sea with all five senses—surrendering your body to the water, breathing in the salty air, and feeling the peat, which has been nurtured for thousands of years, against your skin. It all begins with the Bade Pool on the first floor. Utilizing Taean’s pristine saline groundwater, this pool features various hydromassage facilities along its edges and an “Aqua Exercise” zone in the center. Aqua Exercise is a form of underwater exercise using massage equipment; the buoyancy of the water reduces strain on the joints, allowing even those unaccustomed to exercise to move their bodies with greater ease.
For deeper relaxation, the 34°C Watsu Pool is highly recommended. As you float effortlessly on the water, a professional therapist guides your body through gentle movements and full-body stretching. The highlight of this program is the pure comfort of complete relaxation without any effort of your own. Sessions fill up quickly, as this program is the most popular one here. Since it operates strictly on a first-come, first-served basis on-site, book immediately upon entry. To enhance your experience, pair it with the Peat Vichy Scrub—a full-body hydromassage—and fully immerse yourself in the deep benefits of thalassotherapy.
The absolute must-try program at the Taean Thalassotherapy Center is Peat Therapy. Peat is a natural organic material formed over thousands of years in marine and wetland environments, long used in Europe as a premium resource for hot springs and spas. In the “Peat Far-Infrared” and “Peat Wrapping” programs, a gentle, soothing warmth envelops your body to release muscle tension. At the same time, active ingredients absorbed through the skin effectively relieve fatigue and restore vital energy.
Yoga and meditation programs are held in the Hinoki Healing Room, where the West Sea unfolds through floor-to-ceiling windows, and at the Beach Yoga Pavilion facing Dalsanpo Beach. With a diverse lineup ranging from foundational yoga to singing bowl meditation, simply aligning your breath while gazing out at the endless ocean gently grounds both body and mind.
The second floor offers personalized professional programs, including scalp, facial, and full-body therapies, oxygen therapy, and the Thalasso Capsule. In particular, the “Thalasso Capsule” is a specialized detox program that combines marine-infused steam with thermal therapy. Since the steam and heat effectively induce sweating to flush out toxins, we highly recommend staying well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water before and after your session.
Once the indoor programs conclude, the healing journey naturally extends into nature. Participants can experience barefoot walking and Nordic walking along Dalsanpo Beach right in front of the center or enjoy forest trail trekking through the sea pine forest at the back. This unique course alternates between soft sand and pine forest paths, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in both the ocean and the forest—an advantage exclusive to the Taean Thalassotherapy Center.
The center also provides spaces to pause and unwind between programs. You can relax in the lounge areas equipped with cozy beanbags and massage chairs or enjoy a peaceful moment gazing out at the West Sea from the rooftop infinity pool. For those seeking an extended retreat, the “Stay Package”—which seamlessly combines overnight accommodations with thalassotherapy programs—is an excellent choice.

1. Cheollipo Arboretum
Founded on the Cheollipo coast by Carl Ferris Miller (Min Byoung-gal), a naturalized Korean citizen, this is South Korea’s first private arboretum and its only coastal botanical garden. Where lush forests, the ocean, rolling waves, and birdsong harmonize, visitors can discover approximately 10,000 plant species from around the world, collected and nurtured over his lifetime across seven themed spaces. Its world-class collection features over 400 species of hollies and magnolias, with the arboretum’s beauty reaching its peak in April when the magnolias come into full, spectacular bloom.

2. Baeksajang Port
Baeksajang Port is the largest harbor on Anmyeondo Island. The entrance leading to the port is lined with seafood restaurants and fish markets, making it the perfect spot to experience Taean’s culinary delights. The pedestrian overpass bridging Baeksajang Port and the opposite Deureuni Port is themed after Taean's local specialties, prawns and blue crabs, earning it the affectionate nickname “Daeha-rang Kkotge-rang” (Prawney and Crabby). At dusk, this bridge offers a breathtaking panorama of the glowing sunset. After a scenic stroll along the bridge, as hunger sets in while exploring the harbor, you can savor crispy, savory treats such as fried prawns, fried blue crabs, and sweet pumpkin potato fritters.
