    1997년부터 시작한 영암 왕인문화축제는 29년의 역사를 지닌 대한민국을 대표하는 문화관광축제로 왕인박사 유적지를 배경으로 매년 봄에 개최되고 있다. 고대 동아시아 문화 교류의 정점에는 왕인 박사가 있었다. 백제의 선진 문물과 유교 경전은 왕인을 매개로 대한해협을 건너 일본 열도에 닿았으며 그가 전한 가르침은 단순한 지식을 넘어, 일본 고대 문화의 황금기인 '아스카 문화'를 태동시킨 근원적 동력이 되었다. 왕인의 굳건한 학식(學識), 유려하게 흐르는 영산강과 상대포는 바다를 건너 문화를 전파했던 교류의 물결을 상징한다. 우리는 이곳에서 아스카 문화의 뿌리가 영암에 있음을 다시금 확인한다.
