Heal Yourself with Your Companion Dog in Forest, Swija Park in Yangpyeong
When you step into Swija Park, your body will notice nature. Your eyes will open to green forest, and your ears will listen to birds chirping. The colors and sounds of nature that you rarely experience in cities will make your heart refreshed. As such, encountering Swija Park starts with special experience of being united with nature.
Swija Park is one of the representative recreational forests in Korea. With the area 180,000㎡ on Yongmunsan Mountain, it comprises themed parks, including an Eco Marsh, a Forest of Contemplation, Swija Garden, as well as facilities for forest experience, such as Forest Education Center and Healing Center, and accommodations like Chogawon and House of Healingmodations like Chogawon and Healing House. It is a charming place for dog-lovers as they are allowed to bring their dogs. Dogs are admitted to Swija Park if they are wearing a leash and a muzzle (for large dog).
The best way to enjoy Swija Park is walking. Walking as slowly as possible. While walking the path that way, you will feel your body and mind ease up. You will feel the moments to experience a magical healing power of forest. If you get tired, all you have to do is sit down under a tree and take a rest. You are determined to rest during the travel, and you are in no hurry.
All spaces in Swija Park are closely connected through pretty walking paths. You may take steps to wherever you like, and you will naturally arrive through Eco Marsh and Swija Garden to the outdoor stage. The outdoor stage, where you can find a large lawn, is a natural playground for your dogs and children to run and play. As you enjoy running and playing in the open space, an hour or two will pass in a twinkling. After you sweat running around, cool yourself at Ankle Pool. Open from May to September, Ankle Pool uses only groundwater of which the quality has been examined for a safe water play for children. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted to enter Ankle Pool.
If you walk towards Forest Education Center from Ankle Pool, you will reach the path to Healing Forest. You have to climb fairly steep stairs from Suspension Bridge that you can see after passing the Healing Center to the Wind Bath Rest Area, but climbing would not be too difficult if you go slowly. Healing Forest Trail, which starts from the ticket office and goes around Swija Park, runs for about 2.3 km.
There are lots of places to take a rest in Swija Park. Low wooden benches for for five or six people to sit on, wooden chairs, and tables with decks that look like those of an outdoor café. Most of all, the most famous place in Swija Park is Pine Rest Place. As seen in its name “rest place,” you can experience complete ‘rest’ here without interference from people coming and going, with individual places for rest scattered throughout the dense pine forest. You are not allowed to pitch a tent or camp here, but you can lay a mat and install a canopy, which is why it is a perfect place for a family picnic. Swija Park has no convenience stores nor drinking fountains, so it is better to prepare a packed lunch, snacks, and beverage.
