Master Kim Duk-soo is the leader of samulnori culture in Korea. Samulnori originates from farm music that used percussion instruments like drums, janggu, and kkwaenggwari. Samulnori differs from pungmul nori in that there is no dancing or acting. The single pitch instruments begin with slow rhythms and gradually increase in speed until it almost sounds out of control, creating the same feeling in the audiences' minds. Samulnori has become rooted in Korean society and is basis for the catchy Red Devils "dae-han-min-guk" chant and the internationally-acclaimed Nanta performances.
