  • Accommodations in Korea

    【 Hanok stay 】

As accommodations play a major factor in determining the overall quality of one’s trip, it’s no surprise travelers become thoughtful and meticulous when it comes to choosing the right place to stay. Korea offers a variety of special accommodations such as hanok stay (traditional Korean house accommodations) and guesthouses that go beyond the simple purpose of providing a place to sleep. Of course, there are other familiar options like inexpensive motels, business hotels and, even, luxurious five-star hotels. Read on to find out about different kinds of Korean accommodations that will add excitement to your trip.

    ● Hotels

    【 A city-center hotel 】

Few years ago, a travel concept dubbed as "hocance" rose to popularity among Koreans and has become a steady trend ever since among those who seek a stress-free rejuvenation. A portmanteau of "hotel" and "vacance," it refers to spending a day or vacation at a hotel and enjoying everything the hotel has to offer instead of traveling far away from homeland. There are many excellent hotels in Korea suited for hocance, from global chain hotels such as Marriott, Four Seasons and InterContinental to Korean hotel brands like The Shilla and Haevichi. Based on your preferences and budget, you can choose one from the most luxurious five-star hotels to the most cost-effective business hotels.

    ● Motels

    【 Motel 】

In Korea, motels are the ultimate cost-effective accommodations. Some of the newly built motels offer bedding and whirlpool bathtubs comparable to those of a hotel. There are others equipped with high-performance computers rivaling those found in PC cafés. There are many motels located downtown, making it convenient for travelers. Take note that some motels have the word "hotel" in their names.

    ● Hanok stay

    【 Hanok stay 】

If you’re looking for an in-depth experience with the Korean culture, we recommend a hanok stay where you can feel the traditional and serene charms unique to hanok. You can take a leisurely stroll through the yard in among the wooden buildings or sit on a daecheongmaru (wooden-floor hall) to relax and enjoy the natural scenery. A traditional hanok normally requires a sedentary lifestyle but many hanok accommodations nowadays have beds along with other convenient amenities for the comfort of their guests.

    ● Guesthouses

    【 Guesthouses 】

One of the greatest aspects about guesthouses is that they are relatively inexpensive compared to other types of accommodations. There is also a wide variety to suit the different needs and preferences of travelers from dormitories and 1- to 2-person rooms to female-only guesthouses. Some guesthouses host parties at night for guests, which are recommended if you want to mingle with other travelers.

    ● Pensions

    【 Pensions 】

Pensions are probably the most unique type of accommodations in Korea. There is such a wide variety of pensions ranging from those that resemble typical homes to those as nice as luxury resorts. Some pensions set the tone and mood for impressive selfie and photo results with artwork-like architecture or fabulous views. Popular pensions can take months to score a reservation.

    ● Glamping

    【 Glamping 】

Camping is a form of accommodation by which one can fully enjoy the beautiful nature of Korea. You can choose a campground in a mountain or by the sea based on your preference. Don’t worry if you don’t have any camping gear. You can go “glamping” that comes prepared with everything you need for camping. Some hotels and resorts operate their own luxury glamping sites, such as Pyeongchang Glamping Ground at Kensington Hotel and Glamping Village at The Shilla Jeju , allowing their guests to enjoy a safe and convenient camping experience.
