The biggest reason to enjoy extreme sports and activities is the hair-raising thrill that comes with them! The following locations around the Seoul metropolitan area are perfect for day-trips. Making up your mind to do it is half the battle, so once you’ve done that, it’s as easy as ready, set, go!
Ganghwa Luge, located in Ganghwa Seaside Resort, is home to the largest luge location in Korea, with 1.8 kilometers of track. Luge is a special cart like a wheeled-sled designed for going down hills. Steering the luge is easy, so anyone can drive one after putting on the proper safety equipment. For thrill-seekers, the straight Valley Course is recommended. If you’d prefer to enjoy the view, opt for the Ocean Course.
Ganghwa Seaside Resort offers the closest luge course to Seoul, easily accessible via public transit. The on-site amenities add additional convenience, from the gondola to the observation deck. You can also enjoy the outdoor barbecue camping zone and picnic area within the resort.
Wavesurf is an indoor surf space for surfing safely throughout the year. It’s located in Namyangju, about an hour out of Seoul on the Gyeongchun Line. The wave strength is always the same, and there is no deep pool of water to worry about falling into, all of which sums up to a great environment for beginners. The wave pool runs for 50 minutes non-stop before taking a 10-minute break.
All you need to prepare to surf is a towel and swim shoes! The center offers rash guard and wetsuit rentals at great low rates. Wavesurf is located within The Dreamping, a glamping, caravan & autocamping campground. What better way to end a day of surfing than by camping next to the Bukhangang River?
If the idea of standing on the top of Korea’s tallest building gets your heart racing in excitement, then you’re in luck! Seoul Sky Bridge is a thrilling tour of the bridge connecting the two peaks of Lotte World Tower. Tours run hourly and are limited to 12 people per session. Be aware that same-day online reservations are not available. Before the tour starts, you’ll have to put all personal belongings, excluding cell phones, in storage and put on the experience suit and safety equipment.
The tour is thrilling from the get-go, starting at the base of metal stairs on the outside of the building. From here, you can cross the sky bridge stretching between the twin peaks at 541 meters up. The sound of your footsteps on the metal will echo the beating of your heart as you look out at the city spread out all around your feet. If at any point it gets too scary, you can always back out of the tour and go back into the building. The tour package comes with two photos of your trip and a cardstock frame so you can remember your experience even after your travels.
The man-made lake at the center of Songdo Central Park is famous for offering a number of boats that come in a range of shapes and sizes. The boats become even more fantastic when seen at night, lit up in a rainbow of colors. The most popular boats are the moon boats, shaped like a crescent moon, and the flower boats, decorated like a horse-drawn carriage from a fairy tale book. The boats can easily be driven with either a stick or a switch, but the rocking motion makes them more thrilling than one would expect. The moon boats are limited to three passengers, and can be rented for 30 minutes. Reservations are completely on-site only, and can fill up fast, so be sure to visit early if you want to board a moon boat!
In addition to the lake, Songdo Central Park has gardens and walking trails, making it a popular picnic location. The hanok hotel, the uniquely designed Tri-Bowl, and the skyscrapers surrounding the park all help to create a romantic ambiance at night.
