Introduction

Hoemunsan Mountain (830m) administratively borders Imsil-gun, Sunchang-gun, and Jeongeup-si. It consists of three peaks — Hoemunbong, Janggunbong, Gitdaebong peaks — and stretches 8 kilometers from east to west and 5 kilometers from north to south.

Because Seomjingang River, flowing from Okjeongho Lake, is surrounding Hoemunsan Mountain and then runs in all directions, the view from the peak is fascinating. There are a lot of valleys for swimming and the unsurpassed beauty of Deokchi and Cheondam Valleys attracts a myriad of tourists every year.

Hiking Course

▲ Course 1 (10.2km, Duration: 5 hours): Natural Recreation Forest (자연휴양림) → Observatory (전망대) → Summit (정상) → Janggunbong Peak (장군봉) → Gwachon (과촌)

▲ Course 2 (9.4km, Duration: 4 hrs, 40min): Iljunggyo Bridge (일중교) → Iljung-ri (일중리) → Northern Ridge (북능선) → Cheonmabong Peak Samgeori (천마봉삼거리) → Huiyeoteo (희여터)

Directions

From Seoul Central City Terminal, take an express bus to Sunchang (순창).
* Bus Schedule: 09:30, 10:30, 13:30, 14:45, 16:10

From Sunchang Bus Terminal, take a local bus bound for Ansim Village (안심마을).
It is a 20min-walk from the Ansim Village.
* Local Bus Info: runs 6 times a day

Or, take a taxi to Hoemunsan Mountain (회문산, 20-25min).
