With a name meaning “beautiful waters,” it’s no wonder that Yeosu is a top travel destination among Koreans. Located on the southern coast, the city offers attractions that mix culture and history with stunning scenery, as well as tons of famous foods.
There are lots of marine activities to enjoy around Ungcheon Chinsu Park. Among these, parasailing over the deep blue sea is extremely popular. After a simple lesson on safety and getting equipped, you’ll soon be flying over the sea at a height of a four- or five-story building! You couldn’t ask for a more refreshing view of the city and sea.
After your trip through the sky, head to the nearby yacht marina for a boat ride. Options range from daytime to sunset, and even night rides. While any time will make for special memories, a ride as the sun appears to melt into the horizon is truly romantic.
While you can see the sunset from the dock, nothing beats how close it will feel from the prow of a yacht at sea. Don’t forget to take photos of what is sure to become a cherished memory.
The coastline of Yeosu is dotted with cafés featuring stunning ocean views. Café Highclass, in particular, is famous for its Instagram-worthy photo spots, including a swing based off the famous Bali Swing in Indonesia and a staircase heading into the open sky. For the best photos, be sure to wear a long skirt that can flutter in the breeze!
If you don’t have a long dress with you, you can easily rent a dress for just 5,000 won! There are a range of colors to choose from. Just a quick clothing change will transform you from a traveler to a goddess!

Hyangiram Hermitage has long been famous as a sunrise viewing spot, but it became even more popular after BTS member RM visited in 2018. Many fans enjoy taking photos in the same spot as RM, like with the child Buddha statue covering his mouth, one of three child Buddha statues along the path from Iljumun Gate to the hermitage. Covering their mouth, ears, and eyes, they represent the Buddhist tenets of not saying bad things, not being swayed by others words, and not looking for faults in others.
Continuing along the path, you’ll reach a point where the trail passes between a narrow gap in the rocks. Called Nirvana Gate, this stone passageway will have you feeling quite small and humble. After the first one, there are still six more of these stone gates waiting! Legend has it that you will be granted one wish after passing all seven of these Nirvana gates. When reaching the hermitage, be sure to take in the view from behind Daeungjeon Hall. If you happen to make it in time for sunrise, this spot offers the best view!
Among the abundant seafood options Yeosu has to offer, the must-try dish is definitely gejang (marinated crab), using freshly caught crabs. At one popular restaurant, Kkotdolge Ilbeonga, you can try kkotgetang (spicy swimming crab soup), ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab), and yangnyeom gejang (spicy marinated crab) all for just 30,000 won a person. The meal also comes with plenty of side dishes for a full meal. The best part, all of the dishes can be refilled at the self-service bar!

Being surrounded by water, the most popular accommodations are ocean-view pool villas. During the hottest part of the day, you can look out at the sea from the cool comfort of your room. When the sun begins to set, jump into the infinity pool! It’ll feel just like swimming in the golden sea, only better!
