Walk through modern history in Daegu’s well-preserved old city center
Located at the center of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Daegu functions as the heart of the region, befitting its location. Historically, It was a hub city of import in the Korean peninsula, a role it still retains as an important connector of central and southern Korea today. This geographical characteristic imbued the city with a particular sense of historicity, and one can find traces of long and rich history and culture accumulating across its alleyways. Daegu Metropolitan City developed its own alley based on the theme of Daegu Modern History Streets to promote this charming city’s alleyways to visitors. If you feel peckish, drop by Seomun Market (Night Market), one of the three greatest markets in Korea, for some good food. In July, one can also head to the Daegu Chimac Festival to enjoy chimac, chicken, and beer.

Recently, her repackaged 6th album, “END THEORY: Final Edition (2022),” rose to the coveted first place in the charts with the title, “Event Horizon,” cementing her place as one of the industry’s leading voices. Younha says that she has a particular habit when it comes to traveling: “Short and sweet.” Let’s hear from Younha herself about her trip to Daegu:
“Singers by nature have to frequently take short trips. So it naturally became my hobby to fit in some short and sweet trips in between. In fact, getting some travel done as I move to my next performance has become something of a habit for me. When I to Gyeongsang-do regions, I often go through Daegu because of its location. Walking in Daegu’s old city center brings you to a lot of interesting stores spread across the old streets specializing in tools and traditional medicine. In fact, Daegu even runs its own alley tour programs, so you can really see that these alleys are full of interesting and fun things.”
