“Mokpo is a port.”
This is a well-known statement that describes Mokpo,
but it is also something that cannot entirely describe Mokpo’s colors in autumn.
From the clear, blue sea, like the autumn sky, to the unique scenery of Yudalsan Mountain,
shaped by the unique rock formations and greenery, and the isolated Gohado Island,
which enriches Mokpo’s nature even further, Mokpo in autumn is a colorful mosaic of things to see,
just like its colorful scenery of natural blue and autumn colors.
Moreover, the Japanese-style houses that have stood the test of time,
Modern History and Culture Street’s collection of modern buildings,
and the plump and sumptuous collection of seasonal seafood all add to the joys of seeing and tasting Mokpo in autumn.
For those who want to enjoy Mokpo in autumn fully,
we present the Korea Quality (KQ)–certified Deungdae Guesthouse
for your backpacking needs and a must-visit itinerary for Mokpo!
Complete with the best access
and comfort in a KQ–certified backpacker haven
Deungdae Guesthouse
Deungdae Guesthouse is located only 10 minutes on foot from Mokpo Station.
Since it is located within the city center, it enjoys unparalleled accessibility
and infrastructure with all the benefits for planning one’s visit to Mokpo.
The guesthouse offers single and double rooms in various forms to welcome all types of travelers.
The Deungdae Guesthouse has living rooms and kitchens designed to be used as common spaces.
These spacious common areas are furnished with places for travelers to sit down and chat or dine together,
creating an atmosphere where you can comfortably enjoy your trip to Mokpo as if you were planning the trip at home.
Rather than a glamorous and sophisticated impression,
Deungdae Guesthouse prioritizes creating a comfortable atmosphere like one’s own home.
Regarding the amenities, the guesthouse meticulously stocked
the essentials one may need during one’s travels so that everyone can rest comfortably.
Interestingly, earplugs were provided in all rooms for those more sensitive to noise.
Although the guesthouse is already located in a quiet and peaceful alleyway,
it was a manifestation of the care management considered for guests.
Rest achieved with a warm heart and careful attention
Double Room
Each room in Deungdae Guesthouse appears somewhat plain at first sight,
but one can see that all rooms have different interior designs,
even in the bedding’s colors or curtains’ design patterns.
Just as guesthouses attract various travelers with wildly different backgrounds,
the rooms at Deungdae Guesthouse contain different stories and adventures,
filling one’s heart with a sense of anticipation while unpacking.
While single rooms are perfectly furnished for a single occupant,
the double rooms are furnished with relatively wider spaces i
n mind so that guests can stay and enjoy the space for longer periods of time.
One could sit on the plush bed and watch the sunlight come through the understated patterns
in the curtain or further work on plans for the day at the small table.
Deungdae Guesthouse was built through an upcycling of a space
that had been used as a hospital for about 35 years during the redevelopment of Mokpo’s old city center.
The owner of the building furnished the space as a cleaner,
more comfortable space as an alternative to the newer, fancier, and more colorful buildings.
“Deungdae” is the Korean word for lighthouse,
and Deungdae Guesthouse represents the dream of being a lighthouse
that illuminates the future of Mokpo’s old city center.
This new lighthouse, found in a building that once served as a hospital,
has now fully settled into its role as an excellent lodging.
Now, let the light of the Deungdae Guesthouse guide you as you take your first steps on your Mokpo trip.

Mokpo Modern History and Culture Street
Once a living reminder of Japanese occupation in Korea,
Mokpo’s Modern History and Culture Street has been reborn as a new tourist destination connecting history with tourism.
Today, Mokpo Modern History and Culture Street is a treasure trove of historical buildings,
including Mokpo Modern History Museum Hall 1, the filming site of the popular TV drama Hotel del Luna.

Seasonal seafood and Mokpo night sea
Perhaps the greatest benefit for port cities is that one can enjoy fresh and abundant seasonal seafood at affordable prices,
and now is the best time to enjoy the prawns and gizzard shad, with scents said to make even runaway families return.
From side dishes reminiscent of home-cooked food to spicy fish stew, fully prepared and ready for takeout,
I sampled the bone-in gizzard shad and savory prawns at Chosim Susan that offers everything from start to finish.
Once you have had your fill of seasonal seafood, now it is the time to take a walk along Mokpo’s night sea.
The night sea is nothing short of romantic, with handsome bars and restaurants, people enjoying the night walks,
and the lines of lights linking the port with Gohado Island.
As I walked down the street, I heard others on the road exclaim: “Was Mokpo such a beautiful place?”
