Hajodae Beach

Hajodae Beach, Yangyang’s representative vacation spot, is known for its glistening clear waters that spread along the eastern coast. Hajodae Beach was named after the surnames of Ha Ryun and Cho Jun, the founding fathers of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), after they took shelter here as refugees during the last years of the Goryeo Dynasty. During your visit to the beach, make sure to take in the view of the endless horizon and rock formations from Hajodae Observatory.

For the final destination, take a 5-minute drive from Jukdo Beach along the east coast. Follow the road going uphill and you will soon get a glimpse of a statue of Buddha standing atop the hill, a landmark of the small but charming Huhuam Hermitage. Huhuam Hermitage is one of the few temples in Korea that offers an amazing view of the ocean. The grand statue of Buddha with crystal blue water spreading out to the horizon is truly an unforgettable sight to behold. The temple site also houses a café with an outdoor terrace, allowing exhausted visitors to relax and enjoy the ocean view over a cool drink in the ocean breeze.
