▶ ""Special Law on Environment-Friendly Preservation and Utilization of Areas Surrounding Dams” Passed by Registration & Judiciary Committee 

▶ It is anticipated that some development activities such as building a tourism complex will be allowed in the surrounding areas of dams.  

▶ According to the National Assembly on the 28th, the enactment of the ‘Special Law on Environment-Friendly Preservation and Utilization of Areas Surrounding Dams’ passed through the Legislation and Judicial Committee of the National Assembly on the same day.

▶ When local governments and the Korea Water Resources Corporation formulate an eco-friendly plan for the surrounding areas of the dam and submit to the government, the government will conduct a comprehensive review including the financial self-reliance and designate it as an ‘eco-friendly utilization area’. 

▶ Tourism complexes, recreational forests and tourism farms may be formed in the areas designated as an ‘eco-friendly utilization areas’.

▶ The eco-friendly utilization applies even to the ‘Special Measures Areas’ where restrictions are imposed on various constructions and oil and gas lines on the surrounding areas of Paldang Dam and Daecheong Dam. (However, the water source protection areas are excluded from the target sites for development.)

▶ The cost used for the implementation of the eco-friendly utilization project is to be funded by the project operator and the installation cost of the infrastructure is supported by the national and local governments.
