|Autumn at Juwangsan Mountain and the Yeongdeok Blue Road|
In autumn, the mountains in Korea come alive with their most brilliant colors and the joyous chatter of hikers. Mountains gradually change their hues, starting from regions in the North and descending along the peninsula. Leaves begin to change their colors from mid-October in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do in the North and from early- or mid-November in Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, and Gyeongsang-do regions in the South. The mountains that are most famous for autumn leaves in the South are Juwangsan Mountain, Naejangsan Mountain, and Jirisan Mountain. Juwangsan Mountain, in particular, has gentle slopes that are easy for leisurely hikes and an excellent color scale of fall leaves can be seen from the foot of the mountain. Near Juwangsan National Park is Jusanji Pond, a manmade reservoir that is another popular autumn retreat, and just 40 km east is the ocean where the Yeongdeok Blue Road meanders peacefully along a beautiful stretch of coast from Gangguhang Port to Goraebul Beach, passing coastal cliffs, port villages, and beaches. If you want to hike among the fall colors or walk along an autumn coast, then Juwangsan Mountain and the Yeongdeok Blue road are right for you.
