Recommended Winter Getaways - Part 1. Ski Resorts in Korea
Most ski resorts in Korea are located in Gangwon-do Province, as it gets the most snow, however skiers looking for a quick and convenient weekend outing, will be happy to know that there are resorts in the Seoul suburbs as well. Gangwon-do is the first area of Korea to greet the winter, so the ski season there starts the earliest and lasts the longest, too. There are a number of mountains of various altitudes in the province, offering unbeatable conditions for skiing and snowboarding. Most ski resorts are year-round, fully equipped resorts with pleasant accommodations and convenient facilities in a pristine environment. Resorts generally open in mid-November or early December and operate until March or April. Ski resorts in the suburbs of Seoul and western Gangwon-do are easily accessible by public transportation, which takes only an hour or two, while resorts in eastern Gangwon-do and those located in the center of Korea can be reached within three to five hours. Winter sports buffs can enjoy skiing as well as snowboarding at any of these resorts. To keep up with the growing popularity of snowboarding, snowboarding facilities are continually introduced. Tourists around the nation and abroad see Korea’s ski resorts as an ideal winter getaway, whether they go for the sports or just to relax and enjoy the snowy winter panorama from a steamy hot tub.
