Hallyu Stars Hit the Musical Stage
Would you like to see your favorite Hallyu stars in person? This summer, visitors to Korea will have the unique chance to see some of Korea’s biggest Hallyu stars performing in musicals.
Kim Jun, who appeared in the drama, “Boys Over Flowers”, Seungri and Daesung, from Big Bang, one of Korea’s top bands, and other Hallyu stars are all set to hit the musical stage. With so many great musicals featuring big stars, it will be hard deciding which one to see.
Celebrities who have been out of the limelight for a while will also be appearing in musicals. Son Ho-Young, who was a member of G.O.D, and Ock Ju-Hyun, who was a member of Fin.K.L will both appear on stage this summer.
Although the musicals will be performed with Korean lyrics, non-Korean speakers will still be able to enjoy them thanks to the entertaining music and dances. Two of the musicals, “All Shook Up” and “42nd Street” were originally performed in English and are famous around the world, so audiences can check the storyline before watching these musicals.
In many cases, Hallyu stars are double cast with other actors, and so do not appear in every performance. Make sure to check the cast schedule on the website before you make a reservation!
March of Youth
March of Youth “March of Youth” is the sequel to an animation called Yeongsim, which was very popular in Korea in the 1990s. In the musical, “Yeongsim”, who was a high school girl in the animation, is now 33 years old. The performance features a series of hit songs from the 1990s including “The Last Concert” by Lee Seung-Chul.
The musical features no less than 3 Hallyu stars: Lee Sung-Jin, a member of the band NRG, Lee Jee-Hoon, the good-looking singer-turned-actor, and Kim Jun, who appeared as a member of “F4” in the popular drama “Boys Over Flowers”. Lee Sung-Jin and Lee Jee-Hoon will play the main character, “Wang Gyeong-Tae”, while Kim Jun plays a handsome teacher.
“March of Youth” is an infectious feel-good musical. Audience members jump out of their seats and sing along, united with the actors.
Guaranteed to be a great night out for anyone with a passion for life and music.

42nd Street
42nd Street Are you in the mood for a musical extravaganza? Then “42nd Street” is the perfect show for you. This musical is about a stage-struck understudy who ends up becoming an overnight star. 42nd Street is famous for its big synchronized tap routines, and the opening number of the musical is dazzling.
This version features famous Korean stars, Ock Ju-Hyun, Park Sang-Won and Park Hae-Mi. Ock Ju-Hyun, who once was a member of one of Korea’s most famous girl groups Fin.K.L, will play “Peggy”, a young girl who comes to New York with a dream of becoming a Broadway dancer. Ock Ju-Hyun is an accomplished musical actor and has performed in “AIDA”, “Chicago” and “Cats”. Park Sang-Won, who recently starred in a TV drama and published a photo book, will play “Julian”, a notorious musical director, and Park Hae-Mi will perform “Dorothy”, a one-time star prima donna.
Packed with razzmatazz and pizazz, “42nd Street’s” rhythmically tapping feet and hit song after hit song will set your heart pounding.

Shouting
Shouting Everyone is talking about the musical “Shouting”, because it stars none other than Daesung and Seungri from Big Bang, one of the biggest pop bands in Korea. The musical is about two young men who are working as staff members at a broadcasting company, but both secretly nursing a dream of becoming a singer. In the end their dream comes true, and they pass a big audition and become stars. The musical is actually based upon Big Bang’s success story, and Seungri and Daesung use their real names in the musical.
The show shows how much patience and effort is needed to become a star and gives an entertaining look at life in a broadcasting station. This musical is strongly recommended for those who also dream of becoming famous.
The musical will feature songs by Big Bang, as well as the songs by other Hallyu stars. Big Bang fans are sure to enjoy this behind the scenes look at the band’s world.

All Shook Up
All Shook Up The “jukebox” musical “All Shook up” features the music of classic rock superstar Elvis Presley. This Korean version has received several prizes, including best foreign musical prize at Korea’s 1st Musical Awards. Elvis Presley’s classic hit songs, 'Love Me Tender', 'Hound Dog', 'Can’t Help Falling in Love', 'All Shook Up', 'Burning Love' have fans of all ages dancing in the aisles and singing along.
