2008 Hi Seoul Winter Festival: A Pure White Winter, A Pure Seoul
In 2008 the famous <Hi Seoul Festival> was re-launched so that events would take place during each of the four seasons.  We are now entering the final stage of the festival, the Winter Festival, which takes place under the theme ‘A Pure White Winter, A Pure Seoul’. This festival will take place from December 19, 2008 to January 18, 2009 at the Seoul Plaza, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and all over downtown Seoul, displaying events and shows related to the theme of ‘lights’. Now let’s escape from the cold, gloomy winter and enter the bright, brilliant world of the 2008 Hi Seoul Winter Festival.

The Seoul Plaza Outdoor Ice Skating Rink opened on December 12, 2008 (Fri.) with 18-meter tall light posts, LED lit chairs, polar bear and penguin light installations, and more. Beat the winter blues by enjoying ice-skating and the beautiful Christmas lights at Seoul Plaza.

  Cheonggyecheon Stream  
Cheonggyecheon Stream
The opening ceremony of the Hi Seoul Winter Festival will take place at 6pm on December 19th at the plaza near the Cheonggyecheon Stream. An incredible 100-meter long silver and white colored screen will be exhibited and white lights will project snow images onto the roads. An enormous Christmas tree will be on display, decorated with notes on which people have written their wishes, and every night there will be exciting laser video shows.

  Landmark Buildings  
Landmark Buildings
Downtown Seoul’s Dongnimmun (Independence Gate), the Sejong Arts Center, Seoul Metropolitan Council building, and other major buildings will be decorated in bright blue, red, and yellow lights. As buildings and streets all over Seoul become decorated with festive lights, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a scene from the most romantic Christmas movie.

  Streets Lined with Trees  
Streets Lined with Trees
During the festival period, 345 ginkgo trees that line the streets from Gwanghwamun to Sungnyemun will be completely covered by white-colored lights. The lights from passing cars blend with the lights from the trees and illuminate the beautiful city of Seoul.
