Ulleungdo Island and Dokdo Islet were both created by volcanic eruptions over 2.5 million years ago. As such, the steep cliffs, jagged rocks, and the East Sea create a fascinating landscape. Ulleungdo and Dokdo embrace a special place in the hearts of the Korean people not only for their beautiful nature but also for being a part of Korea’s territory guarding the easternmost region of Korea. Come and visit the beauty of Ulleungdo and Dokdo, which face each other on the East Sea.

Located in the East Sea, 90 kilometers to the Southeast of Ulleungdo, Dokdo Islet is part of Ulleungdo. It consists of Dongdo (East Islet) and Seodo (West Islet) and is surrounded by 36 tinier rock islets. Dongdo and Seodo face each other at a distance of 150 meters and the average depth of the water between the two islets is about 10 meters. Dokdo has a number of sea caves such as Hyeongjegul and Cheonjanggul. Cold and warm currents converge in the surrounding sea, creating an ideal environment for an abundance of marine life to come and thrive. There are also many birds like the Swinhoe’s fork-tailed petrel, streaked shearwater, and black-tailed gull

Tour Information |

|
As there are no special tour programs, visitors only have 20 minutes for sightseeing once they land on the wharf of Dongdo. Since the entire islet is designated as a Natural Preservation Zone, the key to sightseeing is the enjoyment of the natural beauty of Dokdo. You can see Seodo from the wharf or take a stroll to view uniquely shaped rocks and gulls.

A mysterious island full of dreams and romance, Ullengdo can be reached by a three-hour ferry ride from Mukho or Pohang. It is famous for being a land of three fews and five manys: there are no thieves, pollution, and snakes, but many Juniper trees, beautiful women and stones as well as much wind and water.
In the center of the island lies Seonginbong, the highest peak of the island rising 984 meters high. Nari Bunji, the only basin on the island stands to the north. With an average inclination of 25 degrees, the island has few level grounds, so residents must endure many inconveniences. However, the island has numerous tourist attractions comprising beautiful cliffs and rocks, most temperate weather in the nation, and about 600 types of plant species.
