Mud Meets Beauty, The 9th Boryeong Mud Festival
The 9th Boryeong Mud Festival, which is considered by Culture and Tourism Ministry as one of the best festival’s in Korea, is being held at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do from July 15 to 21, 2006. Held every year in July, the festival is one of the biggest and most successful summer festivals in Korea. Its success owes much to the famous mud of the region. A central theme of the festival and abundantly available on the coast of Boryeong, the mud is used to produce cosmetic products. When the mud is applied to the face and body, the skin becomes smooth and silky.
The city of Boryeong provides mud in an unlimited quantity for free during the festival, so the event is extremely popular among both domestic and foreign tourists who care about how their skin looks and feels.
Last year's festival attracted about 32,000 foreigners. With various performances and events throughout the day and into the night along with free shuttle buse services going to and from famous tourist spots in Boryeong, everyone was guaranteed to have a fun time.

[Interview]
At the festival, Se-a met and talked with Kerry, a beautiful Canadian lady.

Reporter : How are you enjoying the festival?
Kerry : It’s full of youthful energy and activities. I am really enjoying it.
Reporter : Did you buy anything? What did you buy?
Kerry : Oh, I bought some mud soap. It comes with a set of 3 soaps for 4,500 won. You know the mud moisturizes and gets rid of dead skin. I wanted to buy a mudpack, but it was a little expensive.^^
Reporter : Well, I hope you enjoy it. Finally, do you have anything to say to foreign tourists visiting the festival?
Kerry : I am here only for the day but I think it takes at least one night and two days to fully enjoy the festival. Many events take place at night. I really wanted to take the free shuttle bus ride but didn’t have the time for it. I don’t even have enough time to enjoy everything on the beach.
Reporter : Did you have any trouble getting here?
Kerry : No, I took the train and got off at Daecheon Station and then took a bus. I think the transportation is very good. City buses seemed to come at short intervals.
