| One-night/Two-day Trip to the Boseong Green Tea Fields
|
The rolling green fields of Boseong have been used as the backdrop for many
movies and TV miniseries in Korea. The endless green vista, tree-lined roads with cedars and nearby
Yulpo Seashore provide visitors with great views and plenty to do. This article takes you on a one-
night, two-day trip.

 Boseong Dawon Tea Plantation (대한다업관광농원大韓茶葉觀光農園)
The Boseong Dawon Tea Plantation is on the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula.
The temperate climate of this region is ideal for green tea cultivation. This plantation was
established in 1957 with rolling hills reaching heights of 350 meters. For those visitors hoping to
see some of the filming locations of commercials and TV miniseries, it will take approximately one
hour. The ideal months to visit are May-August.

Green Tea Fields
The green tea fields at Boseong are among the most famous in Korea. The tea
trees blanket the landscape like a soft green carpet. From mid- April to late May, a soft fog spreads
across rolling green fields in the morning hours, creating some of the most picturesque views on the
Korean Peninsula.

Cedar Trees Line the Landscape
The seamlessly perfect lines of 20-meter high cedar trees add even more charm
to this already romantic setting. This view can be found at the entrance of the tea plantation and
along an adjacent road to one of the tea fields. Thought of as one of Korea’s most beautiful tree-
lined vistas, it has been used at the backdrop for a mobile phone commercial as well as in the film
Gift (선물). This exposure has only added to the Boseong Plantation’s popularity.

Dahyanggak Pavilion
There are approximately 20 tea fields in the
Boseong area not including the Boseong Dawon Tea Plantation. Views of the entire plantation can be
seen from the pavilion. The pavilion is a two to three-minute drive from the plantation or ten-minute
walk. The shop on the first floor sells green tea ice cream during the summer months to cool the
palates of visitors.

Ujeon, the Highest Quality of Green Tea
Green tea leaves are divided
into categories based on when the leaves are picked depending on the season and weather conditions.
The first leaves picked in season are called ujeon. The second harvest of leaves picked is called
gogu, followed by sejak and jungjak. Ujeon is considered the highest quality amongst the types of
green tea, and is the most fragrant. Try stopping by the teashop on the Boseong Dawon Tea Plantation
to experience the fragrant green tea for yourself. One cup is around 1,000 won.

Yulpo Beach
Yulpo Beach is just a 10-minute bus ride from the tea
plantation, making for a convenient place to stop by while in the area. This is a perfect spot for a
calming walk on the beach during sunset.

Lodging
There are many places to stay overlooking Yulpo Beach, most
of them being guesthouses. The average price is 30,000 won, but be aware that prices may double or
even triple during the summer season.

| Day Two, Enjoy the Sunrise at Yulpo Beach |

Sunrise
Sightseeing in the early morning hours offers beautiful and
peaceful views of Yulpo Beach. The small nearby village is blanketed in red as the sun slowly rises
over the ocean. The magnificent sunrise is accompanied by the soft sounds of the water washing along
the beach. Ask a local resident for the time of the sunrise!

Yulpo Haesu Nogchatang

This
spa opened in 1998 and is operated by the Boseong local government. The seawater used in the baths
here is pumped from 120 meters below ground and is mixed with green tea, providing essential vitamins
and nutrients. Large glass windows line one side of the building, offering fantastic views of Yulpo
Beach. This spa is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is 5,000 won.

Transportation :
Travelers can choose between two main routes from Seoul to Boseong.
The most direct way is by express bus.
- By train and bus :
When traveling by train, take the KTX from Seoul
to Gwangju (approximately three hours). Once in Gwangju, go the Gwangju Bus Terminal and take an
intercity bus headed for Boseong (approximately one hour and 40 minutes). Once at Boseong Bus
Terminal, take a bus headed for the Green Tea Plantation and Yulpo (approximately 10-15 minute ride).
- Express Bus :
From Seoul Express Bus Terminal take a bus headed for
Boseong. Approximately five-hour ride.
