Taekwondo

Taekwondo is Korea’s most representative martial arts form and is a globally recognized sport that improves both the physical ability and mental strength of its participants.

International visitors hoping to experience this time-honored tradition are encouraged to check out the Namsangol Hanok Village taekwondo experience program, run by the Seoul City Government.

The program teaches the basic forms of Taekwondo, self-defense techniques, and wood-breaking. Classes are run three times a day on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visitors who would like to participate in the taekwondo program are asked to make a reservation in advance online or via telephone. Classes may be cancelled if there are less than 5 participants for any give time slot.

At the end of each class period, participants will receive a certificate of completion and will have the opportunity to take photos wearing their taekwondo uniform (provided free for use during class).

Visitors to the Namsangol Hanok Village can also watch a taekwondo performance that combines Korean traditional dance with taekwondo demonstrations. Regular performances are held every Wednesday and Saturday from 16:00 to 17:00.
