|A swimming contest is held every winter at Haeundae Beach in Busan Metropolitan City. It is an opportunity for participants to wish for good health in the coming year and promote both a sound body and mind. Everybody is invited to participate, Korean or foreign, male or female.
2,000 people can participate, by order. And conference fee is necessary.
Information: Beautiful Haeundae Beach stretches far along the coast and is one of the greatest attractions in Busan. This is where the Polar Bear Swim tournament is held. The main activities include swimming and playing in the ocean water. The tournament involves running about 10m on the white sands, jumping into the ocean, and then swimming 80m.
The first person to the finish line wins, and contestants are ranked in order as they finish. Before the commencement of the tournament, participants can enjoy a wide variety of games and recreational activities on the white sands. After the opening ceremony, participants warm up and then run into the waters. They can enjoy a hotel sauna, rest, and a meal after the tournament is over.
Things to Remember: The Polar Bear Swim festival is not meant to be a competitive event. It is more an opportunity for the participants to run on the beautiful white sands, feel the cold winter wind on their faces, and wish for a year of good health as they enjoy swimming and playing in the ocean water. The energy of the young demonstrated by running into the cold winter ocean is enough to fight back the winter cold.
Visitors can also go to Dalmaji Hill near Haeundae to relax at any of the well-known cafés there. From here, you will be able to take in the breath-taking sight of Haeundae, along with exciting performances.
There are some events like Aerobic dance performance, ice carving display, body-painting model’s walking and belly dance. And there is time to draw for accommodation’s tickets or airline’s tickets. Every participant is offered T-shirts, towel, polar bear’s doll.
